I hate tooting my own horn too much, but I am red hot right now making NHL picks and it’s in large part thanks to the current hot streak the Oilers are on. They just covered the puckline a few hours ago that we had at +175 in what was an intense game against Ottawa, one that I felt might not go our way in the 2nd intermission.
But nevertheless they came out in the third and dominated against an inexperienced Sens squad who really, really needs to stop taking so many penalties.
In other but related news, during that game this morning it was reported by Chris Johnston of TSN that the Oilers are once again discussing a potential trade for Erik Karlsson with the Sharks. This has me quite riled up as a fan and Oilers beat writer, I will dive into it much deeper on my Substack page I will link here.
But at any rate the Oilers are humming right now and it would seem silly to fade them tomorrow against the Habs, but that isn’t to spoil the article here either. Stick around to find out what market I like for this game.
Edmonton Oilers
After a piss poor effort against Philly two nights ago the Oilers looked like a much more engaged team in a spirited bout with the Sens today which saw Kane and Tkachuk drop the gloves and a lot of physical play.
Offense
Offensively the Oilers remain the best in the business and constantly reporting it is probably annoying so I will leave out the usual suspects.

What’s nice to see is guys like McLeod hitting his stride and Jesse Puljujarvi finding twine after being healthy scratched last game. Secondary scoring being discussed about the Oilers is also annoying but regardless they’re getting it right now which is great news for Ken Holland and company who while I write this I believe are working the phones to acquire Chychrun.
Defense
Speaking of defence, the Oilers do look a lot better in this phase of the game during their win streak but that does not mean that they shouldn’t look to upgrade. It was reported a little under an hour ago now that Jakob Chychrun has been healthy scratched for the Coyotes game against the Blues tonight for “trade related purposes”.
The Oilers have previously been linked to him and the aforementioned Erik Karlsson so I am currently sitting on pins and needles awaiting an announcement.
Goaltending
Jack Campbell looked stellar again, allowing 3 goals but coming up with big saves when needed and you can tell he looks like a more confident man inside the pipes.
Montreal Canadiens
There isn’t much going right for the Habs this season unfortunately, despite being a very fun team to watch with a lot of young talent, they rank dead last or close to it in every major metric.
Offense
29th in goals per game, 30th in shots on goal per game, 31st in power play % and 25th in shooting %. Yikes.
Defense
28th in goals allowed, 27th in shots on goal allowed, 32nd in penalty minutes, and 30th on the penalty kill. Yikes.
Goaltending
Jake Allen is expected to go for this one
