As the series shifts to Edmonton the Oilers find themselves in a 2-0 hole against the best team in hockey. Even with the Avalanche backup netminder assuming staring duties, the high flying Oilers could not even muster a single goal in game 2.
Mike Smith did indeed have a bounce back night and played decently well, outside of the Manson goal in the second period that was weak he turned in a solid performance otherwise.
Moving forward, the Oilers are going to have to get creative with the lineup and the luxury of having last change at home for the next two games. Perhaps bring Kris Russell into the lineup for his first appearance in the series and go with 7 defence and 11 forwards to give the Avalanche a different look and more playing time for the big boys.
The evaluation of the Avalanche does not change much. In the final thirty minutes of the hockey game they were so dominant, it seemed as though Edmonton barely ever had possession of the puck.
And when they did get on a rush, it was always stymied by Colorado’s brilliant defensive coverage and structure. They always seemed to have a parachute back there to slow down or stop the Oilers skilled players.
So, without further ado let’s make our prediction for game three in Edmonton.
Edmonton Oilers
As stated above, the Oilers looked completely flat in game two. Whether it was due to altitude sickness or fatigue I do not know but they appeared to be completely out of gas in the final frame of the hockey game.
“We haven’t shown our best yet which is encouraging.” Leon Draisaitl said of his teams performance.
He isn’t wrong, they haven’t and I do believe that in their first game at home which is really a must win game at this point you have to think the Oilers find that other gear we saw against LA in the first round and Calgary in the second.
Colorado Avalanche
For these Avalanche, well just keep on keepin’ on. There is nothing this team can’t do and although I cannot stand watching them do it to my beloved Oilers, it truly is hockey porn and super fun to watch.
We think of them as an incredibly high octane, deep offensive group, which they are. But they also defend better than anyone.
No loose puck goes unattended, they stay disciplined always and they are never out of position. It’s definitely going to take some series creativity and sheer luck and will for Edmonton to win this series.

Overview 4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Oilers ML +110
I think you gotta take the Oilers money for the value here. If there’s a time to get them at plus money I advocate for it being at home when they’re desperate.
