This is a bit of an early write up but my thinking is we can get something we like before the line inevitably changes after tonight’s matchup against the Blues.
If the Oilers win the price will change as the public gets into them further but if they lose we could get something favourable against a god awful Blackhawks team.
Yes I know they have started the year 4-2 but believe me those winning ways will not continue. The other night on the power play Kane passed a puck to the QB Seth Jones who he was expecting to be in position to hold the line, but instead was drifting out to center ice.
One of the mic’s near ice level picked up his reaction heard here lol.
Patrick Kane was linked to the Oilers in trade rumours all offseason which I believe is highly unlikely and yet last time I checked the Oilers are still favourites to land him via trade this year.
He holds all the cards in this situation and I kind of doubt he ends up leaving at all, but time will tell and I will be watching that situation unfold every bit as close as every other hockey fan.
But, we move to this matchup and we look ahead on this line potentially a little early for my typical liking but let’s do it anyway.
Edmonton Oilers
Again I just wrote another post about the Oilers this morning so I don’t want to beat a dead horse too much here.
But the difference in this matchup is that the opponent is not a tight checking stingy defensive structure like the one they face tonight. Defensively the Blackhawks are below average, they allow a ton of shots on net which spells trouble playing against a potent offence like Edmonton’s.
What’s more is that they are 30th in the league with 12.6 penalty minutes on average per night. That is back breaking against a power play unit that snaps it around like this big unit.
Chicago Blackhawks
Furthermore, on those said Hawks penalties given up they are 76% on the kill which must have Leon and Connor licking their chops about this game. Pad the stats night in Chi Town.
Now offensively however, their team metrics aren’t half bad to start this season particularly in the faceoff circle where they win 58% of their draws good for second in the NHL.
They’re also third in the league at shooting % with 12.8, indicating their highly skilled players still got it and can definitely crack the armour of this goaltending duo.
Speaking of netminders. Alex Stalock is expected to get the nod in this one for the Hawks who has an impressive .938 save % and a 2.13 GAA which far surpasses his counterpart in the other end Jack Campbell off to a shaky start numbers wise.

4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Oilers PL +115
Despite those shaky numbers I just pointed out for Campbell, he has looked much improved from his first two starts which inflated those numbers. Last season during the playoffs Mike Smith actually led the NHL in save % as I covered extensively.
But he never came up with the big timely saves when we needed them most and that’s what Campbell is doing right now which is such a breath of fresh air as a lifelong fan of this squad who has not had a legit number 1 netminder since Dwayne Roloson.
So at the end of the day, I like the Oilers to win this one by a few and I like this price on the look ahead line. They could easily drop this one tonight to St. Louis at which point this won’t be the price we get them at so hit it now.
