The most obvious total of the season didn’t get it done for us on Monday night. Stuart Skinner and Craig Anderson came to play and really stole the show in what was billed (by me) as potentially being the possible game of the year offensively.
It was still a great game however, the Oilers are hot as a pistol right now and Skinner has definitely taken the net back. He looked stellar in between the pipes against a very potent attack by the Sabres.
Defensively they still allowed a lot of high danger opportunities to Buffalo which will happen against a team like that but a lot to clean up there.
The B’s have won 10 straight games and it’s hardly being discussed because we’re just so used to them and their dominance this year. Linus Ullmark is expected to get the nod for this one at home as Swayman got the start in their previous meeting in Edmonton.
Ullmark has a mind bending 1.89 GAA which is just absurd, and credit to how good Boston’s defence is. He also has a .938 sv%.
Unreal.
So the Oilers are in tough in this one and are understandably decent sized underdogs in this one. So without further ado, let’s get into it.
Boston Bruins
There really is not a metric that the Bruins are outside the top ten in. If there is I cannot find it.
The team just has no weakness to exploit and they have shown that all season no matter who they play. I would say that one thing the Oilers can do better than them is playing with pace, but it’s not like the Bruins are slow at all.
Offense
The Bruins are getting without argument the best bang for their buck up front in the entire NHL.

David Krejci has 13g – 37a – 50 points in 57 games for a million bucks. That is absurdly good value.
Bergeron is also having a solid year points wise at 2.5 million, Marchand has always taken team friendly deals as well. The Pastrnak extension was really the first big contract we have seen from this core signed to buck that trend.
Defense
Defensively this team is just as good. Charlie McAvoy is very likely the second best defenceman in the league second only to Makar.
Goaltending
Ullmark as I mentioned is the best goalie in the NHL right now which is going to be crucial playing against this Edmonton offence. He hasn’t had a problem with any team all season, but he hasn’t played McDavid and Draisaitl yet so we’ll see how he handles that challenge.
Edmonton Oilers
Despite the average record over their last ten I really do think the Oilers are still playing their best hockey of the season. 5-3-2 over that ten game stretch is certainly not what they want but the eye test and the fancy stats suggest their performances have been pretty good save for the outing against the Jets last Saturday.
Offense
Offensively this team is a juggernaut, the best in the NHL full stop.
Defense
I’ve harped on them all season long so to avoid being a broken record I want to highlight some positives. The main one being that Ekholm has greatly improved the play of Evan Bouchard and the overall 5on5 numbers of the Oilers.
Goaltending
Stuart Skinner is not the flashy goalie that Igor Shesterkin is or anything but he is incredibly solid in the net and doesn’t get the credit he deserves in my honest opinion.

Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Boston Bruins NHL Prediction
For whatever reason the Oilers seem to play far better against superior competition. And although they lost in the last meeting, and none of the depth showed up on the scoresheet, I thought the Oilers played one of their best games of the season.
They were in front of pucks all night long and tightened up defensively. They limited the B’s chances and Skinner played very well.
I think I will play this one the same way and predict another low scoring game especially since the Bruins are starting Ullmark. Skinner is also going to go for Edmonton again.
Gimme the under.
