The Oilers managed to earn a victory in the important Game 1 of the series on the road, applying the pressure to the Ducks and will go home with a split on the road at worst.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers showed up for Game 1, claiming the early lead in the Western Conference semi-finals on the road.
They will look to follow up a strong offensive outburst to take a commanding 2-0 lead heading back to Edmonton.
It was Leon Draisaitl who was the standout in this game, chipping in four points total in the Oilers’ five-goal game. He was also Edmonton’s best faceoff man, going 6-1 to win 86% of his draws in an area where his team regularly struggles.

Mark Letestu and Patrick Maroon both chipped in two points, helping offset Connor McDavid getting handcuffed all night by Ryan Kesler and limited to one assist.
McDavid getting some time and space looks unlikely in the series if game 1 is any indication.
Cam Talbot made 33 saves on 36 shots for a .917 SV% and earning the victory. He’ll likely need to keep his save percentage above .915 to give his team a chance.
Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks made an emphasis on draping Connor McDavid all night, effectively keeping him off the scoresheet compared to normal and limiting him to the one point.
What they will need to account for though, is their secondary scorers outpacing those of Edmonton.
Ryan Getzlaf was once again the leader on the scoresheet, netting a goal and an assist in the loss. Ryan Kesler also managed to outpace the center opposite of him, with two assists on the night.
The Ducks will need their scoring wingers, Rickard Rakell and Corey Perry, to join the party in game 2.

John Gibson didn’t have his best game on Wednesday night, allowing four goals on 31 shots for just an .871 SV%.
He’ll need to bring it closer to the .915 mark he has throughout the playoffs and help lead his team in the goals against category, where they finished 3rd overall during the regular season.
