Reeling from injuries and losers of five out of six, the Red Wings stick around Florida after a 4-1 loss to Tampa and head to meet the Panthers in the BB&T Center.
Detroit Red Wings
Injuries have been an absolute nightmare for the Red Wings and they continue to pile up. The Red Wings are still marred by injuries to key players including Justin Abdelkader and Tyler Bertuzzi, which has severly limited the team’s offensive production.
Add in new injuries to Mike Green, Jimmy Howard, Tomas Jurco, and Brian Lashoff and you’ve got an injury report the length of a child’s Christmas list to Santa.
The Red Wings are currently 26nd in the league in goals scored (79) and had scored ten goals over their last six games, six of which came against the Ducks on the 17th.

Dylan Larkin continues to be the top goal-scorer on the Red Wings. With 10 goals, he leads the team, but only has two over his last five games.
The defense stands in the middle of the NHL, 17th in goals against, and has 15 games where they have allowed two or less goals. The defense has had some good games, despite not looking good against the Lightning.
However, without a quality offense to score goals and take some pressure off the defense, there’s no way for Detroit to find consistency in the win column.
Florida Panthers
In a season full of bizarre decisions, front office and coaching changes, injuries, and a refocused attention on analytics, the Panthers are trying to stay relevant in the Atlantic Division and make it back to the playoffs.
Since Gerard Gallant’s firing and Tom Rowe’s promotion to head coach, the Panthers are 4-4-4 and have won their last two games against the Avalanche and Sabres.
The oldest active man in the NHL, Jaromir Jagr, is continuing his historic career with a solid 16-17 campaign. In his last five, Jagr has five assists including three against Buffalo. Aleksander Barkov has been wonderful, as well.
He has three goals and four assists over the last five games and looks like he’s taken his game to the next level.

The Florida faithful will hope that the last two wins are a sign of good things to come, despite being against weaker teams. Against the Red Wings, the recent play should bode well for Florida and the team should be able to get a win at home before the break.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Florida is 9-5-0 at home this season
- The Total has gone OVER in five of Florida’s last six games
Free Detroit Red Wings vs. Florida Panthers NHL Hockey Prediction:
The Red Wings are so hampered by injury that they’ll just be looking for a point in their last game before the break. Florida has looked much better offensively in the last two games and it’ll look to continue that trend at home. Florida will get the W.
