The Wild were sellers at the trade deadline so it should come as no surprise that they’ve (finally) fallen out of a postseason spot. That being said, Minnesota is still just a point out of the 2nd wild card spot and what better way to make up some ground than beat a team ahead of you?
Beating the Stars is easier said than done right now however. Dallas has wins in 5 of 6 and is 3 points up on Minnesota in the 1st wild card spot. That’s still pretty close however with only a handful of games left.
Dallas Stars
When you look up ‘standing on your head’ in the dictionary lately you’ll see a picture of Stars G Ben Bishop. The worst game that Bishop has had in four games in March is giving up 1 goal on 30 shots to the Blues on March 2nd.
Bishop has now put together three consecutive SO after blanking the Rangers, Avalanche, and Buffalo in his last three starts. There’s a solid chance at four in a row Thursday vs. a Wild team that was just shut out by the Sharks on Monday in St. Paul.

Unfortunately for Bishop, he’s had to be good for Dallas to get wins. The Stars offense has been held to 2 goals or less in 5 of the last 9 games but miraculously Dallas has won six in that span.
Minnesota Wild
A big question that needs to be answered no matter how the rest of the season plays out for the Wild is what has happened to them at home. The XCel Energy Center was one of the toughest places in the league to get a win two years ago but the Wild have turned into tomato cans on their own ice.
Minnesota is just 14-14-4 in St. Paul this season but it’s been much worse lately as they’ve dropped 8 of the last 9 in front of their own crowd. The Wild most recently were skunked 0-3 by San Jose at home to knock them out of the wild card spot. The hometown fans are getting antsy to say the least.

Thursday’s O/U is just 5. This is banking on Minnesota G Devan Dubnyk returning to form as he allowed 2 goals or less in six straight wins from late February to early March. Dubnyk has now dropped two in a row though after giving up 3 goals to both Florida and San Jose.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Stars are 5-1 their last 6 overall
- Stars are 4-1 their last 5 road games
- Wild are 1-4 their last 5 overall
- Wild are 1-8 their last 9 home games
Free Dallas Stars vs. Minnesota Wild NHL Prediction:
Dallas seems like a strange +100 underdog in this one considering Minnesota’s woes at home and how well Bishop is playing in net. Even if it is a trap, the value is on the Stars on Thursday.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Stars +100
The way Bishop is playing, if Dallas’ loses it’s going to be because of their offense failing to get to Dubnyk. Therefore a bonus wager on the ‘under’ 5 is also a solid play.
