It’s finally time for another Oilers game, they haven’t played since Saturday but a few days off probably does them some good.
Edmonton is in the middle of their best stretch of hockey as we’ve covered though and it could also mess up their rhythm, who knows.
Their opponent tonight is the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets however who have 30 regulation losses on the year and shouldn’t pose much of a threat to them.
So let’s take a closer look and see what market we like in this one.
Evander Kane Will Not Play
Kane won’t be available tonight for Jay Woodcroft as he is due in court in California for his bankruptcy case. The team was aware ahead of time that he wouldn’t be available on these dates between January 23rd and February 2nd.
It no doubt affect the depth of the Oilers forward lineup, he hasn’t lit it up since being back but he certainly has been a factor in other ways and I am sure they are looking forward to getting him back soon.
Columbus Blue Jackets
The Jackets are having a miserable season right now and are in the running for Canadian phenom Connor Bedard.
30 regulation losses on the year is among the worst in the NHL which some were not expecting from this team after signing Johnny Gaudreau. They are actually quite a bit worst this season than they were last year at the same junction of the season.
They rank last or near last in every metric that matters, I won’t dive into their numbers too much because they aren’t important.
The Oilers are sitting only three points back of first in the Pacific which is a far cry from the falling sky they sat under only two weeks ago. Sure made me rethink how I evaluate seasons as well, things can turn around very quickly.
McDavid continues to be ridiculous out there, so much so I don’t need to get into it that much. Campbell and Skinner are also looking like a legit goalie duo.
The Oil are 3rd in the league in goals per game and still ice the best power play unit in the NHL.
The Oilers have continued to get production throughout the lineup which is a great sign for them if they want to go deep in the playoffs again. It also could change the plan come deadline day for Ken Holland in terms of what he’s looking for on the market.
