The Avalanche could not get it done in front of their home fans in Denver in a game that saw some more controversy surrounding a too many men call that is now a, deservingly so, memeable thread in this series.
In the final minutes as I am sure you all saw the Avs were booked for the bench minor down by a goal which all but guaranteed the win for the Lightning after pending UFA Ondrej Palat scored the GWG off a one timer late in the third frame.
It appears that Jon Cooper’s press conference where he was nearly brought to tears over the apparent missed call in the game previous came to fruition for his troops.
Now we head back to Tampa Bay where the cup will once again be in attendance and Nathan Mackinnon and company can hoist it for the first time since 2001.
They have some stubborn obstacles on their way to do so, one being the ever daunting Andre Vasilevskiy, who I have written about incessantly throughout these playoffs I know. But he is like the first gate in The Neverending Story that Atreyu has to pass, the brave knights before him all got shot to death from lasers fired from their eyes.
His teammates call him “Big Cat”, in reference to his rather large stature and size and cat-like reflexes.
In the other end, we see a pretty shaky goaltender in Darcy Kuemper who when forced to come up with big saves, or even simple ones (see the Jan Ruuta goal), can’t seem to come through in the clutch.
Now, I am personally sorry for how bad I have been in this series thus far. Hope you’ve faded me the last five games.
But let’s have some fun anyway shall we?!
Tampa Bay Lightning
So Palat has a Brinks truck backing up to his place as we speak. The dude loves scoring big goals in the playoffs and he is a pending UFA.
The Bolts also finally won the special teams battle in game 5 which was something they were sorely lacking up until that point. One powerplay goal came off a 4 on 3 situation which is obviously rare and they deployed 4 forwards on it which was bold but paid off.
I would look to see some of the same aggressive tactics from Jon Cooper in the game at home with last change in his favor.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche really got lucky in this game scoring two goals. Both were lucky, cleaned up garbage.
I still have a real tough time believing this team is going to lose three straight as good as they are but I am less confident in my futures bet as I was after their game two performance.
