These two teams are currently doing battle in Europe so there are no puck lines out until the game is over. As per usual I will provide an update.
As I write this the Avalanche are up 2-0 in the first intermission and I have only seen the Blue Jackets have two chances but both were high danger. The Jackets are a feisty bunch but they lack any meaningful talent both up front and on the back end.
The Avalanche are off to a slow start for their standards but I as most hockey fans and pundits alike think this team will course correct and likely pull away in the central division eventually. They’re too good not to.
Nevertheless it’s a little tough to handicap them right now due to the fact they’re always rich on the moneyline and have lost in regulation 4 times this season.
They are missing some key guys to injuries right now, the list consists of Darren Helm (undisclosed), Gabriel Landeskog (lower body), and Valeri Nichushkin (lower body) who may be back on Saturday.
Columbus is also dealing with a host of ailments to their squad also, Boone Jenner being one of them due to an illness and also their starting goalie Korpisalo out indefinitely with a hip injury.
So let’s dive in a little closer and figure out why the Avs are struggling and how the Blue Jackets can potentially pull off an upset.
Colorado Avalanche
Francouz is a lock to start this one tomorrow morning because Georgiev is currently in between the pipes, and Pavel is having a start he wants to no doubt put behind him.
A 3.07 GAA and .898 sv % and 0-3 record is not what they were hoping for from him. This is not to bury him he’s a good goalie but it’s scary laying the Avs when he’s starting right now.
And with the exception of the power play which is first in the league, the Avs offence is not producing at the clip we saw last year. Again this is not likely to stay this way give their talent and the depth they’ll get back from the injury list down the road, but as of now it’s just not a team I feel comfortable betting on too often.
Columbus Blue Jackets
The Jackets on the other hand are right where we thought they’d be. They are 29th in the league with 2.6 goals per game, they just don’t generate offence or any real sustained pressure even.
They average under 30 shots per game and are 26th in the league in shooting %. But what is most shocking is that they have not scored a powerplay goal this season. Embarrassing.
They also allow the second most goals per game at 4.4 which is horrendous and allow a ton of shots of goal. There’s just not much if anything going right for this team.
I just checked the score and as I write this the game in Finland is currently 3-2 Avs so they put some goals on the board!
NHL Betting Trends:
- Columbus is 4-1 SU in their last 5 games playing on 3 day’s rest.
- The total has gone OVER in 5 out of Columbus’ last 6 games vs Central division.
- Colorado is 12-2 SU in their last 14 games after allowing 5 goals or more in previous outing.
- The total has gone UNDER in Colorado’s last 5 Friday games.
- Columbus is 5-2 SU in their last 7 games against Colorado.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Avalanche PL @ whatever it is at opening
I know that’s an incredibly bold statement after what I said about them earlier and with Francouz expected to go. But I cannot honestly bet the Jackets to beat this team at those long odds or with how atrociously bad they are this season.
Gimme the Avs in a beatdown to get their confidence back as a group after beating them this afternoon as well.
