Their slow start is fading in the rear view and this team is rolling again and showing us why they are the defending champs. The Georgiev trade has paid for itself already and not signing Kadri to the deal he wanted was a very savvy decision as well.
Cale Makar is also right back to form and is leading the way for Norris odds. Some hockey heads consider him to be the best player in the league above Connor McDavid and I think those people have a very valid argument.
On the other side in this one we have the Buffalo Sabres who I haven’t covered since they started losing the way they are. They are 2-7-1 in their last ten games and a dastardly 1-5-1 at home in that same stretch.
Colorado Avalanche
The Avalanche just took a pounding from the Jets in their last game but I won’t allow that to harm their overall grade too much, most teams are losing up in Winnipeg this year which as a side note is nice to see.
They also lost to a hot Vancouver Canucks squad as well which I’m sure the public lost their collective shirt on but between those two games they also handled the Stars who are a certified wagon.
An interesting stat worth noting in this one is that the Sabres are actually ahead of the Avalanche in goals for average per game with 3.68 to the Avs 3.3, good for 5th and 13th in the league, respectively.
If we want to get more nitpicky with the Avs, they’re also dead last in the NHL at winning faceoffs which is rather surprising.
They do however have the leagues best powerplay and are typically great at limiting high danger chances the other way. Who gets the net for this one is up in the air at the moment, those decisions are not typically made until the day of but either goalie the Avs can go with has a massive edge on any Sabres netminder.
Buffalo Sabres
Speaking of the goaltending situation in Buffalo, it really might be the reason why this team is struggling. Eric Comrie who has been their stalwart thus far is now out indefinitely with a knee injury making Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (Finnish names are the absolute best) the likely starter in this one over veteran Craig Anderson.
In 3 starts this year he has a 1-1-1 record, a nightmarish 4.29 GAA and a .845 sv %.
The Sabres have a laundry list of issues and the narrative online at least from Sabres fans is one suggesting this team is much better than their record and will likely return to contention.
I am not entirely sure why they would want this over a high pick in the draft, which is absolutely stacked, to keep adding to the cupboard. They have a ton of good pieces no doubt about it but this is not a team that’s ready to make a run for the cup.
Going into this matchup specifically, I really don’t have high hopes they can take down a juggernaut like the Avs.

I am going to take a shot here with the puckline where the value is. If you think the Sabres are capable of outscoring the big bad Avalanche then by all means fly at ‘er on the moneyline.
But what convinces me in this one is a couple things, particularly the goalie situation for the Sabres and usually the Avs are excellent after a loss and get goals in bunches.
I think this is going to be a drubbing and I will bet it accordingly.
