Heading into this one Chicago is coming off a late 3rd period loss to the Oilers in what was a very strange game where the refs never put their whistles down.
Chicago has actually looked better than what most people expected at least to start the season. It’s obviously early but they play fast and hard-nosed and are not an easy team to put away.
The Sabres on the other hand are coming off a loss to the Habs in which we picked the Canadiens (humble brag) but they have thus far been really impressive.
They also play with incredible pace and are getting good goaltending from both Comrie and Anderson who is doing it at the ripe age of 41.
So we head to upstate New York for this one and I cannot wait. Let’s dive in.
Chicago Blackhawks
So as it stands right now the Blackhawks are actually tied at the 7 spot, with the Sabres for goals per game average at 3.57.
The Hawks also have the best shooting % in the entire league, as well as the best faceoff % which are two great metrics to lead in as we talked about prior to the Oilers game.
The issue for them is they do not take any shots, they are 30th in the NHL in shots taken which isn’t uncommon for teams with high shooting percentages.
Alex Stalock is also slated to get the start in this one who has a strange stat line of 3.00 GAA which is not great but a .913 save % which ain’t bad at all, which leads me to their defensive stats.
They allow far too many shots on goal, an average of 32.7 per game and they take a shit load of penalties making it so they are constantly getting shelled. If they want to be competitive they absolutely need to clean that up.
Buffalo Sabres
Now Comrie is getting some timely stops right now and looks solid but his stat line isn’t something to be super confident in as a Sabres backer. He’s sitting at 3.41 GAA and .909 save %.
The Sabres are much like the Hawks offensively. Great shooting percentage and goals per game.
Something to note is that in the last 10 matchups between these two the Hawks have owned them 7-2-1.

4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Over 6.5
Because of these two teams poor defensive play and goaltending metrics along with their shooting percentages I love the over in this spot. In the last ten meetings between these two the over is 6-4 which is interesting.
Hammer the goals ladies and gents.
