Coming off a loss to Arizona on Friday, the Carolina Hurricanes head to face the Coyotes again, this time in Glendale.
Arizona, one of the worst teams in the NHL, isn’t necessarily looking for many more wins at this point considering the team is vying for the top draft pick in this summer’s draft.
Carolina Hurricanes
Simply put, Carolina doesn’t have what it takes this season to compete in the toughest divison in the NHL, the Metropolitan.
The Hurricanes sit dead last in the division and it’s due to a mixture of poor personnel on the ice coupled with mediocre coaching.
The Hurricanes are one of the lowest scoring teams in the league, ranking 27th in goals this season with 153.
Carolina doesn’t have a lot of offensive fire power and it’s showed, especially against teams in the Metro that do have explosive offenses.

Left wing Jeff Skinner has been the team’s top goal-scorer with 20. He also has 20 assists on the year. In his last five games, he has a goal and an assists.
19-year old Sebastian Aho has seen some solid ice time in his rookie year. In 61 games this season, he has 18 goals and 17 assists. He has a goal and two assists over his last five games.
Arizona Coyotes
The Arizona Coyotes solidified the end of their season during the trade deadline when the team traded away Martin Hanzal, its leading goal-scorer and Ryan White to the Minnesota Wild.
Sure, it was basically mathematically impossible to compete for a playoff spot at that point anyway, but now the team is left with almost no offense.
The man left to generate the majority of the offense is Radim Vrbata. Vrbata has been Arizona’s most consistent point getter this season, posting 15 goals and 33 assists in 64 games. Over his last five games, he has two goals and four assists.

Right wing Tobias Reider has also played some decent hockey for Arizona. He has 14 goals and 14 assists, including a goal and two assists over his last five games.
In a matchup between two bad teams, it’s anybody’s hockey game. However, I wouldn’t expect the Coyotes to give it 110% considering how close the team is to that number one pick in Nolan Patrick.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The Total has gone OVER in four of Arizona’s last six games
- Carolina is 1-9 SU in the last 10 games
Free Carolina Hurricanes vs. Arizona Coyotes NHL Hockey Prediction:
Arizona’s season is all but over and you should expect the Coyotes to play for the number one pick in this year’s draft. In other words, don’t expect many more wins from this team. Carolina should get the W in this one.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: UNDER 5.5
This isn’t going to be a pretty game. With two bad offenses, each with very little goal-scoring ability, I would take the UNDER in this one.
