What is up folks it’s your boy Lavoie here with a pick in this battle of the basement. The Arizona Coyotes head to the Bell Centre to take on Les Habitants.
These teams are really poor hockey clubs. Both however have some bright spots for the future.
I do not usually like taking games like this as they are such a crapshoot but we here we are. The Canadiens have an abysmal home record, and the Coyotes road record is only slightly better.
The trends for both teams are not great, but we will dig into the line and discuss their future as well as their deadline aspirations.
Without further ado, let’s dig in!
Arizona Coyotes
The Coyotes defensive metrics are terrible and there is no way around it. I would expect that their big ticket defenceman Jakob Chycrun wants out of town.
They also have veteran winger Phil Kessel who might want to go to a contender and could help someone like the Rangers or Penguins. However he did just have a baby so maybe a move isn’t ideal for him.
In terms of their current play on the ice they have some of the worst metrics in the entire NHL. They rank dead last in shots on goal, 30th in goals per game and dead last on the powerplay.
Not much going right for these guys at the moment, and next year they will be playing on a college campus in a 5,000 seat venue.

Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens situation isn’t much different as of right now except in my personal evaluation of their prospect cupboard and draft situation they have a little more to look forward too.
Jordan Suzuki has blossomed into an electric top line forward. Caufield, and their other young studs are exciting to watch and they all have a bright future ahead of them.
Defenceman Jeff Petry and Ben Chiarot will likely draw some interest come deadline time. Petry has regressed this year but is still a solid two right handed defenceman who would add immediate value to a contenders blueline.

I am going to chuck a dart at the Coyotes moneyline in this one. They have beaten the Leafs recently and came within one of the Bruins.
They seem to like to play spoiler as underdogs especially against poor goaltending. And starting for the Habs is backup Sam Montembeault who is posting a horrendous 3.60 GAA and ,897 save % in 24 starts this season.
