What is up everyone it’s your boy Lavoie here with another pick on the pond. In this one we see the Ducks visiting Oil Country to take on Edmonton as they return from California with a sweep against LA and San Jose.
It has been awhile since I wrote about my beloved Oilers and a lot has happened since. Most recently and most infuriatingly, they sent down goaltender Stuart Skinner to the Condors after recording our teams only shutout of the season against the Sharks.
A puzzling way to reward someone. Score one for Oilers management!
We also lost veteran defenceman Duncan Keith and forward Zack Kassian both long term. Philip Broberg has stepped in for Keith and has looked subpar thus far.
So, as the Ducks start to hit a bit of a schnide, the lines set and everything in mind let’s dig into this one further and find out what side we need to be laying.
Let’s start with the road team.
The Ducks have had a really strong season and have outperformed expectations thus far. However in their last ten games they are 4-4-2 and losers of two straight.
They are tied with Edmonton in shooting percentage with 9.6 per game and sit a few spots behind them in goals per game as well.
Where they have an edge though is goals allowed per game. The Ducks strengths are on their blueline and even more so in the cage with John Gibson.
Good goaltending and consistent defensive play is something the Oilers sorely lack, obviously.
The newest member of the Oilers who comes with his fair share of baggage has so far played really well. In eight games, Evander Kane has 3 goals and 3 assists and 12 penalty minutes.
For the price tag it would seem this acquisition was well worth it. The Oilers do continue to struggle in between the pipes.
I hate beating a dead horse, every hockey fan knows about the Oilers goalie situation but it is so bad that it always warrants consideration when betting on or against this team.
As I mentioned before, Skinner who in my humble opinion is the best goalie on the roster was sent down to the AHL yesterday and the ancient and unhealthy fossil Mike Smith is expected to start in this one.

Free Edmonton Oilers vs. Anaheim Ducks NHL Prediction:
I like the Oilers in this one as favourites on the juice. I realize what I said about their goaltending and defensive play, but what convinces me is the Ducks lack of offensive output on this recent skid of theirs.
And conversely, the Oilers believe it or not are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Don’t look now but they might be on a little hot streak to make a push to regain lost ground.
