2017 Jets Season Preview & NFL Futures Lines
Looking for 2017 New York Jets predictions? We’ve got your back. The New York Jets were one of the pleasant surprises of the 2015 NFL season. With Ryan Fitzpatrick under center and his old buddy from Buffalo Chan Gailey calling the offense, the Jets had one of the most explosive offenses in the league, parlaying that unit into double-digit victories, even if they did fall just short of qualifying for the postseason.

Flash forward 17 months from the final game of that season, and the Jets are in a complete rebuild after an extremely disappointing season, and this campaign should be just as ugly as the last, although at least the fan base will enter this season with tempered expectations.
2017 New York Jets Predictions: Roster Changes
After a lengthy contract dispute with Ryan Fitzpatrick that saw the franchise give the veteran quarterback a truck load of money for one forgettable season, the Jets are going back to a similar well by adding journeyman Josh McCown as the de facto starter at quarterback.
Kelvin Beachum is a quality add, but there’s not much in the way of talent at the skill positions, and that was never really addressed in the offseason.

The defense saw franchise cornerstone Darrelle Revis leave town once again, and former Dallas Cowboys first-round pick Morris Claiborne has been brought in to replace him at the position. The secondary also got a boost in the form of No. 6 overall selection Jamal Adams, a safety out of LSU.
A slew of other veterans also left town in the offseason as part of the youth movement, most notably wide receiver Brandon Marshall, center Nick Mangold, and offensive tackle Ryan Clady.
2017 New York Jets Predictions: Offense
The offense is not going to be pretty when it’s on the field for the Jets this season. They do have a couple good running backs in Bilal Powell and Matt Forte, but beyond that it’s just a wasteland.

McCown figures to be the Week 1 starter at quarterback, but he’s never played a full 16-game season, and it would make sense in any event that Christian Hackenberg would get some snaps under center.
They can’t let another season go by without figuring out exactly what they have in the former second-round pick out of Penn State.
The team didn’t bother drafting a quarterback in what was a weak class for the position, with an obvious eye on the much deeper 2018 QB class.
2017 New York Jets Predictions: Defense
It’s tough to look at this Jets defense and really point to anything or anyone exciting. The defensive line duo of Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson almost seem to be fading despite their relative youth, and they’re just taking attention away from Leonard Williams.
Middle linebacker David Harris wasn’t resigned and he’ll be sorely missed on a defense that lacks veteran leadership.
2017 New York Jets Handicapping: (Strengths/Weaknesses)
The defensive line should be more of a strength than it has been in recent years. There’s a lot of talent there. And the duo of Powell and Forte should give the team a good presence on the ground if their quarterback play is halfway decent and keeps opponents from stacking the box on every play.

The weaknesses on this roster are far too many to count – and likely by design.
This is a team in a complete rebuild with an eye on a high draft choice in the 2018 draft. They’re pushing their chips to the center of the table in hopes they’ll be able to land a quarterback that can save them from their current situation.
2017 New York Jets Prediction (Final Record): 2-14
The Jets are in the midst of a complete rebuild and are not worth consideration for any type of futures action. They’ll be a popular weekly fade week in and week out, even as large underdogs, and will be a team to fade in suicide pools as well.
