Both the Knicks and Nets got their 2019/20 seasons off on the wrong foot with losses in their openers. Game two is a great spot for one squad to get to the .500 mark.
Oddsmakers are greatly banking on the Nets getting Friday’s W, listing them at -450 on the ML while giving 9 points on the spread. The Knicks would love a signature win early in the season though.
New York Knicks
The Knicks were very overmatched in their opener, traveling to San Antonio and losing 111-120. New York did play well on Wednesday though as they covered the +10.5 line.
New York also held an 84-83 lead heading into the 4th quarter vs. the Spurs. The Knicks shot 46.6% from the field and were just 10-30 from three point range.
What the Knicks did get in their opener was a nice contribution from offseason acquisition Julius Randle. The former New Orleans Pelican had 25 points and 11 boards.

It was a strong showing from the Knicks frontcourt as a whole as Marcus Morris had 26 points to go along with 4 rebounds. The Nets were lit up for 36 points and 14 rebounds from Karl-Anthony Towns in the opener so they may have a weakness on the blocks.
New York also had to be happy with the production of their rookie RJ Barrett. The former Duke Blue Devil went for 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting in his NBA debut.
Brooklyn Nets
The major storyline from the Nets first game was the play of Kyrie Irving. Brooklyn’s prime offseason acquisition dropped 50 points in his Nets debut on 17-33 shooting.
Kenny Atkinson also got a nice contribution from Caris Levert chipping in 20 points on Wednesday. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough as Brooklyn fell 127 to 126 to Minnesota in overtime.

Brooklyn is disappointed with their 0-1 start, especially as they went into the T’Wolves game as a 3 point favorite. There were opportunities – the Nets led 93-88 after the 3rd quarter. The Timberwolves outscored Brooklyn 39-33 in the 4th quarter and overtime though.
The Nets aren’t going to have a lot of secondary scoring options and may be a bit thin late in games. Taurean Prince, Joe Harris, and Spencer Dinwiddie are going to be relied on to try and help the Nets cover the 9 points vs. the Knicks.
