Once again, the Big Ten has turned into a logjam of epic proportions. Right now, there are six Big Ten teams within two games of the top spot of the conference.
These are two of those teams! So, this should be a good game!
Michigan State Spartans
Like I mentioned on Saturday morning, the Spartans have serious issues on the road. And, this loss at Michigan only confirms my suspicions.

Tom Izzo’s squad has now lost three straight games, dropping their conference record to 8-5. However, at this exact time last year, MSU dropped their third straight game which dropped their conference record to 9-3. So, no need to count out the Spartans just yet.
They have a top-20 defense, a a top-20 offense, and Cassius Winston. Those three things alone are enough to make a deep postseason push.
All of that being said, the Spartans are 1-4 on the road in conference play this season. And, with the Big Ten being as talented as it is this season, i’m ready to cast serious doubt on their chance to pull down a Big Ten championship.
Illinois Fighting Illini
On Jan. 30th, Illinois had just ripped off their seventh straight victory. They coasted over Wisconsin, Purdue, and Michigan on the road, and were atop the Big Ten conference.
Well, they just dropped two straight, at Iowa and vs Maryland. Granted, those are two of the best teams in this conference this season, and it looks like Maryland is going to win the whole damn conference.
What does this all say about the Fighting Illini basketball team? I’m not really sure, but I do know a few things…
A) The Illini are really good at rebounding. Country-wide, they are 7th in OR% and 50th in DR%. Those stats are also both 2nd in the Big Ten.
B) Ayo Dosunmu and Kofi Cockburn are both really, really good players.
C) They will be a 7 seed or higher in the Big Dance.
I think the Fighting Illini are a good basketball team with a chance to win the Big Ten and/or go deep in the tournament. I think…
