Louisville Cardinals
The Cardinals missed a chance to earn a resume-boosting win and keep pace with the elite of the Atlanta Coast Conference on Saturday when they lost by 10 points, at home, to North Carolina.
Louisville didn’t play sloppy basketball; UNC simply looked like the better team, inside and out. It was a measure of revenge for the Tar Heels after Louisville took them down in Chapel Hill.

So the Cardinals come in behind UVA, Duke and UNC in the conference and don’t have much time to get down with two road games coming up this week, starting with this one on Big Monday.
As good as Chris Mack has his team playing this year, the Cardinals can struggle on the offensive end at times. They’ll have to find a way to generate good looks on the road against one of the toughest defenses in the country.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Joining Louisville and Syracuse with two losses in ACC play is Virginia Tech, which earned a huge road win over North Carolina State on Saturday.
There are a couple notes on that one. Firstly, the Hokies held NC State to the fewest points by a team from a major conference in the shot clock era and the fewest points in D-1 since 2008.

The Wolfpack shot 9-for-54 from the field and 2-for-28 from three en route to 24 points. The two teams combined for just 10 assists on the day.
The defensive effort came at a good time with starting point guard Justin Robinson out. The senior is averaging over 14 points and 5.5 assists on the season. He missed the game with a foot injury, leaving the Hokies with just seven scholarship players available because CJ Horne also missed his third game in row.
Robinson’s availability was in question going into Saturday and it’s still that way ahead of this one. Saturday’s game was a spectacle of sorts, watching NC State throw up brick after brick. Tech is a darn good team but it won’t survive at the top of the ACC without Robinson for long.
