Texas Longhorns
The #4 Texas Longhorns have won all three BIG 12 games propelled by marvelous guard play. Texas’s only defeat of the season came against #3 Villanova, who was ranked #12 at the time.
Matt Coleman III has been a very clutch scorer for the Horns this season. The senior guard has scored at least 13 points in three straight games and features an average of 13.7 PPG to go with a team-leading 4.6 APG. Courtney Ramey is a three-point specialist where he is shooting 44% on the season. As a team, the Longhorns are averaging 76.00 points per game which 111th in the country. On the road, that average dips to 74.25 points per game but that is 79th in D-1.
Andrew Jones is back to the elite form he displayed in his sophomore season before suffering from medical issues for the last two years. He has eclipsed 20 points in two out of his last three games. The senior guard enters this contest averaging 12.3 PPG.
They continue to play stellar defense and are limiting opponents to only 63.1 points, spotting them 41st in all of D-I.
West Virginia Mountaineers
The #14 West Virginia Mountaineers enter this crucial matchup with some energy. The Mountaineers were a small1.5 point road favorite in an 87-84 win over Oklahoma State on Monday night to advance to 2-2 in BIG 12 play.
The Mountaineers slipped five spots in the AP Top 25 rankings this week and a victory in this game would definitely help lead to a considerable leap. Ken Pomeroy’s rankings has WVU at 13th overall currently and Texas placed at 7th in the Nation. West Virginia is scoring an average of 75.3 points on the season, placing them 127th in D-I. They are surrendering an average of 69.5 points, positioning them 170th in the country, but that number drops to just 60.25 points when they play at home which is 68th in D-1.
Miles McBride scored 20 points for the third time this season in Monday’s win to lead the team. The sophomore guard has scored at least 15 points in five out of his last six games and is donning an average of 15.3 PPG on 44.5% shooting. Junior big Derek Culver is having a terrific season and has tallied six double-doubles on the year. The forward owns an average of 13.8 PPG and 10.3 RPG.

Free Texas Longhorns vs. West Virginia Mountaineers NCAAB Prediction:
I like the Mountaineers to bounce back here against some good competition. WVU struggled against Oklahoma after losing their star sophomore Oscar Tshiebwe due to personal reasons and transferring. They finally started to figure out their rotation in the second half of the Oklahoma State game and finished the game on a 37-12 run. People are really high on Texas right now and even though they just beat Kansas by 30, I think the Mountaineers can give them trouble. Slowing down Texas’s guards is going to be key for West Virginia and if they can do that they should be able to sail to a win.
