Two clubs that got out to a surprisingly good start have hit the wall and are struggling to maintain home-court advantage as the Toronto Raptors face the Miami Heat for their last game before Christmas.
Toronto arrives on the heels of a back-to-back set where they lost both matches, including getting punched in the mouth by the Nets, losing 81-96. In fairness, the Raptors were missing two starters (Jakob Poeltl, RJ Barrett) and had been struggling in recent play.
In the loss, Toronto’s offense sputtered with just two players collecting double figures as Brandon Ingram led the way with 19 points, while Immanuel Quickley produced a double-double of 17 points and 10 assists.
Similarly, the Heat fell in their last match, losing 125-132 to the Knicks on Sunday. Five Heat players collected double-figure scores with Kel’el Ware leading the way, offering 28 points and 19 rebounds.

Here is my Raptors Heat free pick. Pace will be an issue for the Raptors if Miami engages in its typical speed. Also, if Poeltl can’t go, Ware could have a banner night in the paint and on the boards.
As for the Heat, they need to figure out how to integrate Herro as a positive because the team has struggled since his return.
Since his return Herro is averaging 23.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.0 steals while shooting 50.5% from the field and 40.5% from the perimeter.
Toronto won the initial contest between the clubs but brought gang rebounding and transition defense to the party. They’ll need to replicate that effort, however, if they look even remotely like they did in the last week, this will be an easy win for the Heat.
Having said that, the Raptors got embarrassed in Brooklyn, and Barnes had arguably his worst game of the season. Still, I just can’t get behind picking them without knowing whether Poeltl will play.
