About a week ago the December 22nd contest between the Suns and Wizards would have looked like a cake walk for Washington. In the last 9 days Phoenix has put together a 4-game win streak while the Wizards have subsequently dropped 6 of 7.
Phoenix has climbed out of the NBA basement (Chicago and Atlanta now tied for worst record) and aim to win their third game in a row. Washington is a so-so 8-6 at Capital One Arena this year but Suns have won only 3 of 16 road games. Phoenix should be well rested however and they have a great chance to prove they’ve really bounced back from a horrible start.

Their record might not indicate it but Phoenix actually does have a considerable amount of talent. Devin Booker is back in the lineup after missing six games with a hamstring injury and he’s gone fore 25+ in three straight. Deandre Ayton is starting to play like the #1 overall pick coming off a 23 point, 18 rebound night vs. Boston.
Other contributors on the Suns include TJ Warren who also missed time with an ankle injury. He’s tallied 20+ in five straight games. Kelly Oubre, Jr. had 13 points and 6 boards in his first game with the Suns on Wednesday. He’ll get a chance to take on his former team right away on Saturday night.

So what has been the key to the rise of Phoenix? Certainly getting their players back healthy has a lot to do with it. Over this winning streak the Suns have played some very solid defense, holding 3 of 4 opponents to 103 points or less.
The Phoenix offense has also looked good the last two games, averaging 119.5 ppg. They shot 52.2% Monday night at Madison Square Garden and followed that up by scoring 111 on Boston’s top 5 defense.

Washington Wizards
Washington acquired Trevor Ariza from Phoenix over the week but so far the returns haven’t been ideal. The Wizards have dropped both games that Ariza has suited up for. Plus, the supposed defensive addition hasn’t worked as Washington has allowed 127 ppg the last two.
John Wall’s scoring production seems to be dropping a bit as he tries to get comfortable with the new Washington lineup. He’s put up just 18 and 15 points the last two but did have a 12 assist night last time out. Bradley Beal has actually been carrying the Washington offense with 29 and 28 points in his last two games.

Wall and Beal will have their hands full with the Phoenix backcourt on Saturday. Overall the Washington defense has given up 115+ in five of seven. This contest has a great chance of playing out as a high scoring affair with all the offensive talent (and suspect defense) on the court.
