Friday, December 14 finds the Miami Heat meeting up vs. the Memphis Grizzlies as they play for the first time in the 2018-19 regular season. In their last game on Wednesday, the Heat lost in route by to the Utah Jazz. Conversely, the Grizzlies channeled a typical grit and grind effort into a win over the Blazers with neither team scoring 100 points.

Last season, Miami swept the season series between the squads. The Heat hold the all-time record having bested the Grizzlies in 24 of their 43 matches.

The Heat have dealt with a myriad of injuries all season. In one of their better efforts, Miami had just eight active players versus the Clippers but was able to pull off the victory.

Currently, the Heat are on a six game road trip having played four games and sit at .500 with wins against the Clippers and Suns. The losses came via a three-point heartbreaker to the Lakers and oust in Utah.  Memphis and New Orleans (Sunday) will complete the trip.

Hassan Whiteside was away from the team the past three games for the birth of his child although he is expected to suit up  Friday. Goran Dragic (sore right knee) has missed eight of the last 10 games and probably won’t play on Friday.

Dion Waiters (left ankle surgery) has an undetermined return date.

Memphis Grizzlies

The key cog in the Grizzlies wins is Mike Conley who has showcased just how valuable he this season. Reflecting back to last year when Conley missed most of the year the team translated losses into a high draft pick. But, with Conley back on the court and active the Grizzlies are seeded, looking to return to the postseason.

Conley’s ability to change pace remains one the NBA’s best kept secrets and his even, well tempered demeanor punctuates his leadership style. He’s been nursing a sore hamstring but is expected to play versus the Heat.

Meanwhile, veteran big man Marc Gasol and rookie Jaren Jackson Jr. have formed a formidable frontcourt plus the addition of Joakim Noah offers yet another big man capable of passing and playing inside-out.

Jevon Carter (right knee soreness) didn’t play against the Blazers and is confirmed out versus Memphis. Chandler Parsons (right knee soreness) and Dillon Brooks (MCL sprain, left knee) are both expected out until the end of  December.
