Friday, November 25th, finds the Denver Nuggets facing the LA Clippers for the first of four scheduled meetings. Denver will host on January 5th and February 26th. LA will host again on January 13th.
Both teams played Wednesday with the Nuggets needing overtime to defeat the Thunder 131-126 while the Clippers lost 107-124 to the Warriors.
Last season, the teams played on four occasions with the Nuggets taking three of the four contests. The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 102 of their 185 matches.
Denver Nuggets
Although the Nuggets got back Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray the game prior they still look slowed from their bout with COVID and resulted in Murray sitting versus OKC (along with Michael Porter Jr.).
Without two of their main offensive assets the Nuggets needed an extra frame for them to dispense of the scrappy Thunder.
Jokic led the way with 39 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists while Aaron Gordon stepped up his offensive contributions with 31 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two blocks.
Although Jokic was just shy of the triple-double, Bruce Brown did reach that milestone with 17 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists (plus four steals).
Considering the struggles in Brooklyn, the signing of Brown continues to be one of the more puzzling decisions made by Sean Marks this offseason.
While Jokic and Murray were sidelined the Nuggets suffered some offensive slippage dropping to 10th in scoring with 114.5 points per game.
Regardless, they remain the most proficient team in the association shooting the second-best mark of 49.3 percent from the field and topping the ladder for best perimeter shooting (40.1%).
Defensively, the Nuggets allow opponents to score 114.3 points per game which ranks 21st. Denver opponents shoot 48.7% from the field (28th) and tied for 10th with the Rockets and Heat allowing 35.5% from the perimeter.
Ish Smith (calf), Bones Hyland (illness), Jamal Murray (conditioning), Michael Porter Jr. (heel), Jeff Green (knee), and Peyton Watson (quarantine) are all listed as questionable for Friday. Collin Gillespie (leg) is out indefinitely
LA Clippers
If it feels like the Clippers are in a constantly turning turnstile when it comes to Paul George and Kawhi Leonard it’s probably because they are! Of LA’s 19 games the duo has both played in four and two of those occurred in the opening week.
Just as Leonard returned from a 12-game absence, two games later George was out again and Leonard was back on the sidelines Wednesday with hints this could be more than a single-game absence.
The Clippers average 106.2 points per game which rank dead last in the association. LA shoots 47.7 percent from the field ranking eighth and 36.1 percent from the perimeter ranking 14th.
Defensively, Clippers’ opponents score 106.8 points per game which is the third-fewest allowed. After a sub-par effort versus the Warriors, their opponent field goal percentage climbed a tick to (44.3%) and they subsequently lost the top ladder rung dropping to fourth.
With the Dubs sinking 19 deep balls they also dropped one spot to seventh for opponent perimeter percentage (33.8%).
Both Paul George (hamstring) and Kawhi Leonard (knee) are listed as doubtful for Friday while Luke Kennard (calf) is questionable.

Both teams are clubs I projected to have deep runs in the postseason but clearly for that prediction to come true they’ll need to be healthy. The Clippers just started to showcase the two-way dominance they could deliver when we got tossed back into the PG-Kawhi injury dilemma.
I’m more confident the Nuggets will rise to my projections, especially with the next 20-game segment of their schedule taking a drastic turn to the easier side. This is the 13th road game for Denver (they’ll play seven in their next 20).
I’m betting they’ll be sitting first or second at the end of that sting (barring major injuries).
As for this match, the Nuggets have a slew of players on the injury report but I’m still banking on Jokic leading them to the victory and covering the spread.
