Friday, November 25th, the Brooklyn Nets and Indiana Pacers play the third of fourth scheduled meetings. The clubs completed a baseball series with the teams splitting the set as Indy won on October 29th (125-116) and Brooklyn won on the 31st (116-109).
Both teams last played Wednesday with the Nets finishing a back-to-back defeating the decimated Raptors 112-98 while Indy lost 101-115 to the Wolves.
The teams have played a total of 190 occasions in their history with the Pacers winning 109 contests. Last season, the clubs played three times with the Nets sweeping the season series.
Brooklyn Nets
While injuries always play a factor and can shift a team’s chances for an easy win, four of the Nets’ last six opponents played without their best player.
Even more unfathomable, in the Nets’ last three games their opponents were missing their TOP THREE players, and in the case of the Raptors, they were without seven rotational players needing to dress both their 2-way players just to meet the minimum player requirement.
That Brooklyn hasn’t compiled a major winning streak while playing decimated teams highlights why jumping on the Nets bandwagon prematurely isn’t wise.
That said, their recent good fortune has impacted some stats categories as facing three consecutive teams using deep bench rotations allowed Brooklyn to shave points and percentages off their standard averages.
Specifically, they moved up to 12th for opponent scoring allowing 111.1 points per game, and jumped to the top of the ladder for opponent field goal percentage of (44.0%) but only moved up one rung to 28th for perimeter percentage with foes shooting 38.1%.
The offensive end of the court is where the Nets perform best scoring 111.4 points per game which ranks 18th while they shoot 49.2% from the field and 37.1% from the perimeter ranking third and 11th respectively.
Seth Curry (ankle) is questionable and Yuta Watanabe (hamstring) is out. TJ Warren (foot) is expected to return in early November.
Indiana Pacers
One of the signs of a developing team is breaking bad habits. The Pacers for example tend to get out to slow starts and their youngsters fall into tendencies not to bring the necessary energy highlighted by the fact they rank 30th in first-quarter scoring (25.4 points).
Conversely, Indy also displays the resiliency and grit of a developing team that has taken the leap based on how they close games. Case in point, they rank first overall for fourth-quarter scoring, averaging 29.9 points.
More telling is their net differential in clutch time ranks second at +22.0 seemingly upping their defensive intensity in the clutch.
As for their current situation, Indy scores 115.9 points per game ranking seventh overall. Indy shoots 45.7% percent from the field and 36.9% from the perimeter ranking 23rd and 12th respectively.
Defensively, they allow opponents to score 114.1 points per game (19th) while limiting their foes to 46.2% from the field ranking 10th, and 37.6% from deep which is tied with the Suns in 25th.
Isaiah Jackson (ankle) and Andrew Nembhard (knee) are questionable for Friday. Daniel Theis (knee) and Chris Duarte (ankle) are both out indefinitely.

To put the Nets’ abysmal rebounding into perspective — Toronto snatched 52 rebounds with 23 on the offensive glass and did this while missing players who average over 30/8 sitting on the bench!
Like the Raptors, the Pacers are above-average performers on the glass ranking fifth for offensive rebound percentage (percentage of available rebounds snagged from available opportunities).
I guarantee if the Grizzlies or Raptors had been at full strength I would’ve jumped all over them beating the Nets and to that end, with a relatively healthy Pacers squad, I’m all in on Indy not just keeping it closer than the three points but winning outright.
