Monday, December 5th the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors meet for the first of four scheduled matches this season. Toronto will host again on January 21st and the teams will play a baseball set in Boston on April 5th and 7th.
The Raptors coming off a 121-108 victory versus the Magic on Saturday while the Celtics are completing a back-to-back set having defeated the Nets 103-92 on Sunday.
Last season, the squads played four times with teams splitting the series each winning twice. The Celtics hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 62 of their 104 matches.
Boston Celtics
Jaylen Brown couldn’t miss to open the match in Brooklyn scoring 20 points in the first quarter. Jayson Tatum got off to a slower start but took over to close out the match.
The result was double-double efforts for both as Brown notched 34 points and 10 rebounds while Tatum offered 29 and 11 rebounds with four steals including one at game end when he picked KD’s pocket and strode in for the dunk to punctuate their victory.
Boston’s offense is on another level ranking top three across the board averaging 121.6 points (1st), 49.6% from the field (3rd), and 40.4% from deep (1st).
They’re improving defensively with Robert Williams closing in on a return to bolster their averages of opponent scoring 113.6 points (15th), 47.2% field goal shooting (19th), and 35.4% from the perimeter (13th).
Marcus Smart (hip) is questionable for Monday. Robert Williams III (knee) and Danilo Gallinari (knee) are out indefinitely.
Toronto Raptors
After the loss in Brooklyn, the Raptors players held a meeting to discuss getting back on track. Pascal Siakam and Thad Young led the conversation that touched specifically on their poor starts losing their last two first quarters by a combined 46-81.
They’ve won all but one match when they win the first quarter so this has to be a point of focus, particularly on the road where this issue is most prominent. Granted they’ve battled injuries all season, but with Siakam and Barnes back they have enough talent to be competitive with anyone.
Saturday, their steely faces during pre-game shoot-around told the story – and the 36-24 lead after the first quarter was the result. OG Anunoby matched his season-high with 32 points, grabbed 3 steals, and was the primary defender on Paolo Banchero who was 2-8 and sat early.
Pascal Siakam (26 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds) and Scottie Barnes (17 points, 14 rebounds) each served up double-doubles.
On offense, the Raptors score 110.9 points per game (19th) shooting 45.0% from the field (26th) and 32.9% from deep (25th).
Defensively, the Raptors allow 109.5 opponent points per game ranking (7th) while they shoot 48.3% (25th) from the field and 35.3% from deep (12th).
Juancho Hernangomez (ankle) is doubtful. Otto Porter Jr. (toe dislocation) and Precious Achiuwa (ankle) and not expected back for at least a few weeks.

Free Boston Celtics vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
This is the litmus test for the Raptors albeit they have the rest advantage. Celtics – Raptors games are always physical, gritty battles but based on how Boston is rolling it’s hard to bet against them.
Toronto has shocked in games of this nature but I simply can’t pick against that lethal Boston offense especially when the Raptors emphasize the paint over the perimeter on defense.
