The Tampa Bay Rays, sitting atop the AL East at 84-57, continue their series against the Texas Rangers tonight at Globe Life Field. Tampa Bay enters after taking Friday’s game 7-6, while Texas comes in at 70-72 and remains well behind the leaders in the AL West. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM ET.
The Rays finally broke through in Arlington after dropping Thursday’s series opener 6-0. Friday’s victory snapped Tampa Bay’s 10-game losing streak at Globe Life Field, giving the Rays their first win in this ballpark since June 2, 2022.
Tampa Bay finally broke its Arlington drought, and now two proven starters take over Saturday night.
Tampa Bay built a 6-1 advantage Friday before Texas stormed back with five runs over the final three innings. Nick Martinez worked 6.1 innings for the Rays, while Elias Díaz supplied the Rangers’ biggest blow with a seventh-inning grand slam.
The series is now tied 1-1 as Drew Rasmussen and Jacob deGrom take the mound Saturday.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers Odds & Last 5
The betting market has this matchup priced almost evenly, with Tampa Bay and Texas both listed at -108 on the moneyline. The Rays are -1.5 (+159) on the runline, while the Rangers come back at +1.5 (-193). The total is set at 7.0, with the Over at -104 and Under at -116.
Tampa Bay enters Saturday with an 84-57 record after Friday’s one-run victory. The Rays have won seven of their last 10 games, maintaining their position at the top of the AL East during the September stretch.
Texas is 70-72 after dropping Friday’s game.
The Rangers have gone 5-5 across their last 10 contests and are trying to get back to the .500 mark. Texas opened this series with a 6-0 shutout Thursday before Tampa Bay answered Friday, leaving the first two games split heading into Saturday night.
Rangers Stats
The Rangers enter Saturday with a .243 team batting average and have received production from several different spots in their lineup. Texas has hit 160 home runs, providing enough power to remain dangerous despite an offense that has lacked consistency at different points this season.
Joc Pederson leads the club with 24 home runs, while Jake Burger has supplied 23 homers and 79 RBIs.
Ezequiel Duran has been one of Texas’ more productive all-around hitters. Duran is batting .276 with 16 home runs, 76 RBIs and 11 stolen bases, while Brandon Nimmo is hitting .268 with 14 homers. Corey Seager has added 14 home runs despite being limited to 81 games.
Texas still has enough depth to make pitchers work throughout the lineup.
The Rangers showed that Friday by nearly erasing a five-run deficit, with Díaz’s grand slam turning what looked like a comfortable Tampa Bay win into a one-run game. Texas ultimately finished with six runs despite falling short in the ninth.

Rays Stats
The Tampa Bay Rays have built their 84-57 record with a balanced roster that has kept them at the top of the AL East. Tampa Bay’s lineup has consistently put runners aboard, while its pitching staff has provided the run prevention needed to remain one of the American League’s best teams.
Junior Caminero remains the biggest power threat in the middle of the order.
Caminero has supplied Tampa Bay with significant home run production, while Yandy Díaz continues to give the Rays another dependable bat near the top of the lineup. Tampa Bay also showed some extra-base punch Friday, producing two home runs and three doubles over the first five innings while building a 6-1 lead.
The Rays have received strong work from their rotation as well.
Rasmussen enters Saturday with a 14-5 record and 2.95 ERA, and his 15 quality starts are tied for fifth in the American League. Tampa Bay will be looking for that type of length after using four relievers to protect Friday’s narrow victory.
We want to hear from you below! Comments are welcome! Give us your picks for this Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers MLB matchup.
Rays vs. Rangers Pitching Matchup
Drew Rasmussen takes the mound for Tampa Bay with a 14-5 record and 2.95 ERA. The right-hander has recorded 149 strikeouts while putting together one of the strongest seasons in the Rays rotation. His 15 quality starts also place him among the American League leaders.
Rasmussen’s 0.93 WHIP further shows how effectively he has controlled traffic on the bases.
Jacob deGrom counters for Texas with a 10-9 record and 4.00 ERA. The veteran right-hander has struck out 167 batters and remains capable of dominating a lineup when his command and stuff are working together. He demonstrated exactly that in his most recent outing.
DeGrom allowed only one hit across seven scoreless innings against the Athletics last time out.
His 1.13 WHIP gives Texas another strong starting profile opposite Rasmussen. With Rasmussen carrying a sub-3.00 ERA and deGrom coming off seven shutout innings, Saturday’s matchup gives both clubs a legitimate chance to control the game from the mound.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers bottom line: Tampa Bay brings the stronger overall record and recent form into Saturday, while Texas counters with Jacob deGrom after nearly completing a five-run comeback Friday night.
Tampa Bay Rays vs. Texas Rangers Baseball Betting Trends

- The Rangers have covered the run line in 3 of their last 5 games.
- The Rays are 2-3 straight-up in their last five games.
- Additionally, the Rays have gone over the total in 3 of their last 5 games.
- The Rays have covered the run line in 2 of their last 5 games.
Rays Rangers Free Pick: Over 7.5
Here is my Rays Rangers free pick: I’m going Over 7.5, but the recent scoring trends aren’t the main reason. Friday’s 7-6 Tampa Bay win showed both lineups can create trouble once the starters leave.
Texas has scored 29 runs over its last 5 games, including 6 Friday after being shut out in Thursday’s series opener. The Rangers have also gone Over in 4 of their last 5.
Tampa Bay answered Friday with 13 hits, 7 runs and 2 home runs. Jonathan Aranda had 3 hits, while Richie Palacios also went deep.
The starting pitching is strong enough to make this total uncomfortable, but both pitchers have some recent cracks worth considering.
Jacob deGrom enters 10-9 with a 4.00 ERA, while Drew Rasmussen is 14-5 with a 2.95 ERA. Rasmussen owns the prettier season numbers.
Still, deGrom had an uneven August, mixing 3 strong starts with 3 rough ones. Tampa Bay has also been one of baseball’s better offenses against right-handed pitching since the beginning of August.
One more thing: the Rays’ bullpen had to navigate trouble Friday, and closer Bryan Baker left the game before recording the final out.
This isn’t a blind trend play. Both offenses showed life Friday, and 7.5 gives us a reasonable target.
I’ll play the Over 7.5.
