Yankees vs. Padres Gameday
The New York Yankees visit the San Diego Padres at Petco Park looking to continue their winning ways. New York enters at 80-60 with two straight victories, while San Diego sits at 73-67 after dropping its last two games.
The Yankees have been excellent on the road with a 43-29 record away from home. The Padres have held their ground at Petco Park at 41-28, although they have struggled recently with only three wins in their last ten games.
New York brings the hotter form into San Diego, but the Padres have been tough at home.
Clear and warm weather should provide ideal conditions in San Diego. These teams have not met this season, leaving both clubs to lean on recent form as they open the weekend series.

New York Yankees vs. San Diego Padres Odds & Last 5
The Yankees enter the matchup as slight road favorites. New York is -132 on the moneyline, while San Diego comes back at +113. The runline has the Yankees -1.5 at +129 and the Padres +1.5 at -156.
New York arrives with consecutive victories over the Los Angeles Angels and some momentum on its current road trip. San Diego has dropped two straight against Cincinnati after struggling to generate consistent results recently. The Padres return home looking to reverse that slide against an 80-win Yankees club.
Padres Stats
The San Diego Padres have experienced some challenges offensively this season. Their team batting average sits at .237 with a .315 on-base percentage. San Diego has also hit 153 home runs, giving the lineup some power despite its overall inconsistency.
The Padres’ pitching staff has been steadier with a 3.95 team ERA. San Diego has recorded 1,131 strikeouts while holding opposing hitters to a .241 batting average. That pitching has helped the Padres remain above .500 entering September.
Ty France has provided a strong batting average for San Diego, while Manny Machado remains one of the biggest power threats in the lineup. Fernando Tatis Jr. also gives the Padres another dangerous bat after hitting two home runs against Cincinnati earlier this week.

Yankees Stats
The Yankees have produced plenty of power this season, with Ben Rice leading the club with 35 home runs and 87 RBIs. New York has leaned heavily on the long ball while building an 80-60 record. That power remains one of the biggest concerns for opposing pitching staffs.
The Yankees’ pitching staff has also been a major strength throughout the season. New York has consistently limited opposing hitters while receiving quality work from its rotation. Max Fried gets the ball tonight with a 2.80 ERA.
Luis García Jr. has provided another productive bat since joining the Yankees in August. He is batting .292 with five home runs in 26 games for New York, while Jazz Chisholm Jr. has added 19 homers and 40 stolen bases. The lineup gives the Yankees several different ways to create offense.

Yankees vs. Padres Pitching Matchup
Max Fried takes the mound for the New York Yankees with a 4-4 record this season. The left-hander owns a 2.80 ERA and has accumulated 83 strikeouts. His ability to limit runs has made him a reliable option in the New York rotation.
Fried also enters with a 1.00 WHIP, showing how effectively he has kept runners off base. That control will be important against a San Diego lineup with several dangerous hitters. The Yankees will look for Fried to continue that consistency on the road.
Walker Buehler starts for the Padres with an 8-6 record and 4.66 ERA. The right-hander has recorded 111 strikeouts, giving him considerably more strikeouts than Fried this season. His 1.35 WHIP reflects some difficulty limiting baserunners.
Buehler will need to keep those baserunners under control against a Yankees lineup with plenty of power. Fried owns the stronger ERA and WHIP entering the matchup, while Buehler brings the better win-loss record. San Diego will look for its starter to take advantage of pitching at Petco Park.
New York Yankees vs. San Diego Padres bottom line: New York enters with two straight wins and an impressive 43-29 road record, while San Diego returns to Petco Park looking to end a two-game skid and improve on its strong 41-28 home mark.

Yankees Padres Free Pick: Over 7.5
Here is my Yankees Padres free pick: The total is only 7.5, and Walker Buehler gives the Yankees a matchup they can attack. San Diego has enough offense to help, so I’m going Over.
New York enters the series averaging 4.5 runs per game with 192 home runs. San Diego averages 4.2 runs and has 153 homers, giving us two lineups capable of doing damage without needing a wild game.
The pitching matchup is the interesting part. Max Fried carries a 2.80 ERA for New York, but Buehler enters 8-6 with a 4.66 ERA for the Padres.
That works for me.
Additionally, the Yankees just took two of three from the Angels and scored 15 runs across the final two games. San Diego is fighting for a playoff spot, so I expect a competitive opener rather than one lineup disappearing early.
Fried is obviously the biggest obstacle to the Over. However, this doesn’t require San Diego to hammer him; a few runs from the Padres and another productive night from New York can clear 7.5.
The Yankees’ power gives them a chance to do most of the lifting against Buehler, and the number leaves some breathing room.
Give me Over 7.5 in Yankees-Padres. I’m betting the bats produce enough without needing a complete pitching meltdown.
