Two teams heading in opposite directions close out their series as the Detroit Tigers take on the Baltimore Orioles. While the Orioles remain one of the best teams in the majors, the Tigers continue to lose game after game.
Detroit Tigers
The Tigers are bottoming out and they’re looking for anything to make sure the wheels don’t fall off completely. Detroit is just 1-9 over its last 10 games keeps falling further and further behind in the AL Central.
The Tigers are mostly struggling with their bats, though the pitching hasn’t been doing the offense many favors either.
The Tigers will send Michael Fulmer to the mound to close out the series in Baltimore. Fulmer has only made three starts this season and he’s yet to make it past the fifth inning.
Fulmer has also allowed eight earned runs over his last two starts and has surrendered 17 hits in just 10 combined innings. He comes in with a 6.00 ERA and an insanely high 2.00 WHIP.
Baltimore Orioles
At 22-12, the Orioles are playing as well as any other team in the majors. Led by a monstrous lineup that features Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo and Adam Jones, Baltimore comes into this game 6th in runs, 7th in hits, 4th in slugging percentage and 3rd in home runs.
The Orioles’ lineup can hang with the best of them, and the pitching isn’t too far behind either.
Kevin Gausman will get the start for Baltimore to close out the series. Despite a 0-1 record, Gausman comes in with a very impressive 2.16 ERA and a WHIP of just 0.80. He also does a tremendous job of commanding the strike zone with a K/BB ratio of nearly 5/1.
In two home starts this year, Gausman allowed just two runs on seven hits in 14 innings. He’s been burned by a lack of run support, but the Orioles are seeing the ball better than they have all season.

The Orioles are the much more complete team, and Gausman is sure to pick up his first win of the season in this one.

I have no confidence in the Detroit Tigers right now, especially against a team like the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles have a better offense and much better pitching, and they scored 11 runs in their last Sunday home game.
The price is pretty steep, but I have no confidence in Detroit.
