Two AL Central foes heading in opposite directions will close out their series in Minneapolis as the Twins host the Cleveland Indians. Crazy ending on Saturday night as the Twins won in the bottom of the 11th
The Indians took a comfortable division lead into the All-Star break and find themselves nearly 20 games over .500.
Cleveland doesn’t have a big masher in the lineup, but the Tribe have gotten significant contributions from guys like Francisco Lindor, Mike Napoli and others, but it’s been the pitching that’s really carried this club.
The arsenal of young aces will keep this team competitive for years to come.
One of those aces is Josh Tomlin, who is expected to get the start in this game.
Tomlin is 9-2 with a 3.51 ERA and could easily be the fourth-best pitcher on the team. That’s how scary Cleveland’s pitching staff is.
He struggled in his last start, allowing five earned in less than five innings, but the Tribe is still 7-3 in his last 10 starts.
The Twins find themselves in the cellar of the American League and are more than ready for this season to be over.
For all the progress they made in 2015, 2016 saw them give it all back. With the exception of Miguel Sano and Joe Mauer, Minnesota has had nothing to cheer for this year.
The team is awful in both pitching and hitting and needs to find some major arms in order to be successful next season.
Kyle Gibson will counter Tomlin in this start for Minnesota.
He’s pitched better over his last few starts, but his numbers are still pretty bad. He comes in with a 2-5 record to go with a 5.02 ERA.
He has a K/BB ratio that’s barely over 1/1, and he’ll have to be at the top of his game if he wants to take down the first-place Indians.
MLB Baseball Betting Trends:
- Indians are 27-11 vs. the AL Central.
- Indians are 7-3 in Tomlin’s last 10 starts.
- Indians O/U is 7-2-1 last 10 games.
- Twins are 6-22 vs. AL Central.
- Twins are 3-10 at home vs. AL Central.
Free Cleveland Indians vs. Minnesota Twins MLB Prediction:
The Indians are one of the best teams in all of baseball, and the Twins are one of the worst. The Twins have been awful all season, but they’ve been especially awful against divisional foes.
Though Gibson has looked better as of late, he still doesn’t have the type of stuff that strikes fear in the hearts of Cleveland’s hitters.
I don’t see the Indians losing this game.
