Chicago White Sox
Derek Holland was once a very reliable pitcher for the Texas Rangers, from 2011-2013 he averaged nearly 200 innings per year and averaged an ERA under 4 during those years as well.
Yet starting in 2014 up until this season, he’s struggled to stay on the field because of injuries. He’s averaged only 67 innings from 2014-2016 and has been over 100 innings just once in that span.
He hopes to find new life in his first season with the Chicago White Sox and has pitched well in the first month of the 2017 season.
He’s already amassed 22.2 innings and has an ERA of 1.99 with a strikeout rate that resembles his best seasons in Texas. He is having trouble locating pitches and has had some problems with the long ball, but the early results are promising for Holland.
Detroit Tigers
Michael Fulmer was acquired from the Mets back in 2015 in the deal that sent Yoenis Cespedes to the New York Mets and David Price to the Toronto Blue Jays.
Fulmer made his major league debut in 2016 and pitched 159 innings to the tune of a 3.06 ERA and 11 wins.
Fulmer has built on that success in 2017 as he’s made four appearances this season, amassing 25 innings and a 2.88 ERA. He opened the season with a six inning shutout of the Boston Red Sox and his last performance 7 innings and gave up two runs in the win against the Minnesota Twins.
