Some of the best three-year-old fillies in the country are set to clash on Saturday afternoon at Saratoga in the (G1) Coaching Club American Oaks.
Considered the second leg of the fillies Triple Tiara series, the CC American Oaks follows the (G1) Acorn Stakes and precedes the (G1) Alabama Stakes.
With one scratch, the 2026 CC American Oaks has an expected field of eight. They’ll run 1 1/8 miles on the Saratoga dirt track.

2026 Coaching Club American Oaks Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Always A Runner Race Odds: 9-5
Always A Runner won three consecutive races to start her career, including the (G1) Kentucky Oaks, until running second last out in the Acorn.
She’s one that likes to come from further back in the field and needs some pace to close into.
2026 Coaching Club American Oaks Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Counting Stars Race Odds: 2-1
After running third behind Always A Runner in the Kentucky Oaks, Counting Stars was able to turn the tables last out in the Acorn, taking the win by 3 1/2 lengths ahead of that rival.
She’s one of the most experienced runners in the race with nine lifetime starts and she’s won five of those. Typically she likes to stalk just off the pace.
Zany Race Odds: 9-2
Like Always A Runner, Zany won her first three lifetimes starts, but she has come up short in her last two at the Grade 1 level, including running fifth last out behind that one and Counting Stars in the Kentucky Oaks.
She posted a bullet workout of 47.79 for four furlongs in prepping for this, and you can expect she’ll be showing speed out of the gate.
Directive Race Odds: 6-1
Lightly raced Directive will be making only her fourth career start, but she has been very good in all of them. She was second on debut at Aqueduct back in April and has since won her last two, the most recent of those at this track and distance.
Her speed figures have increased with each start and she seems to a horse headed in the right direction, although she’s making a big step up in class here from any of her previous races.

The scratch of long shot La Rascasse (8-1 ML) removes some of the speed from a race that didn’t have much on paper to start with and so it will be interesting to see how the pace develops here.
That could leave Directive alone on the lead while both Zany and Counting Stars close up early, while creating some problems for Always A Runner.
While I don’t know if Zany can see out the distance, Counting Stars clearly can and she’s going to be my pick to win. The upstart Directive holds on for second and I’ll put her underneath in the exacta.
