2025 Hill Prince Stakes Handicapping
The 2025 Breeders’ Cup World Championships is in the books, but there’s no end to stakes racing across North America. On Saturday Aqueduct plays host to two Grade 3 races, including the Hill Prince.
The race is slated to go 1 1/8 miles on the Aqueduct turf and is open to horses age three. The race has drawn a competitive field of nine, all of which are looking to claim their first graded-stakes victory.

2025 Hill Prince Stakes Free Pick & Handicapping: Stars And Strides Race Odds: 2-1
Lightly raced Stars And Strides made his first two starts on dirt and picked up a win on debut over a sloppy Saratoga track going seven furlongs.
He’s been on the turf for his last two and has won them both, including last out in the restricted Saranac Stakes, also at Saratoga. That race was at 1 1/16 miles, and he showed a strong kick to close into what was not an overly fast pace. Now he tries stretching out another 1/16th.
2025 Hill Prince Free Pick & Handicapping: Mayor of Midnight Odds: 9-2
Stepping up to try stakes company for the first time, Mayor of Midnight is a late closer that has run three consecutive races at a distance of 1 3/8 miles, so this actually represents a cut back for him
Last out he got up just in time to win an allowance level race at Aqueduct, where he has won twice in three tries with one third-place finish. He’ll be hoping to get some pace up front.
Noble Confessor Race Odds: 5-1
Another one cutting back in distance from his last three efforts, Noble Confessor has gone up against some top-level competition in his nine lifetime races, having started in four graded-stakes already.
That includes last year un the (G1) Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, where he finished sixth but beaten only two lengths. Last out he was second by two in the (G2) Jockey Club Derby Invitational at Aqueduct.
Griffin’s Wharf Race Odds: 6-1
In nine lifetime starts Griffin’s Wharf has hit the board seven times, albeit with only a maiden win in that span.
After seven consecutive starts on dirt, he’s been on the turf for his last two, including two back when he finished second but just 3/4 of a length behind Stars And Strides. He was third in his only previous try at 1 1/8 miles with all other races at one mile or less, so distance may be a question.
Here’s My 2025 Hill Prince Stakes Free Pick
Horses that have shown early speed are always a bit dangerous when cutting back in distance – particularly when there’s not a lot of other obvious early speed in the race – and that’s what I see in this race with Noble Confessor.
Breaking from the rail I don’t think the jockey will have any choice but to go forward right from the gate. If he can gain control of the pace it’s possible that with his back class he just may wire this field.
I’ll take him to win and use Stars And Strides in the exacta.
