Week 12 college football sees the Cowboys and Aggies meet at Maverik Stadium.
The Aggies are favored by 5 points in this Mountain West Conference matchup against the Cowboys. Utah State’s 2021 season is a far cry from the 1 – 5 record that transpired in 2020. This could be another double-digit win year for the Aggies and the program’s first since 2018 when the Aggies found 11 wins culminating with a big bowl win to boot.
Blake Anderson left Arkansas State for this exact reason, knowing he could turn around this program and I would say he has done that then some. With New Mexico on deck next weekend on the road, Senior Day at Maverik Stadium hopefully brings the Aggies to win #9 and they clinch their spot in the MW title game.
Wyoming Cowboys
Wyoming Head Coach Craig Bohl has been here for 8 years and he knew getting past the 2 – 4 2020 season would take some doing. Despite the down season, many outlets were still calling for this program to take a big step up and possibly challenge for the Mountain Division title.
Yeah, the 1 – 5 MWC record will ensure that won’t be happening and Bohl also knows what it feels like to be left out of bowl season with a 6 – 6 record. Oh, I talk about it all the time around here and you know what I will be saying, right? WOFFORD, BABY!!
Hmm hmm, scheduling Wofford in 2018 led to a 6 – 6 team being uninvited to any bowl games, and those f**king teams that still schedule FCS programs are always up to question. Wyoming started the season with that Montana State program out of Bozeman and sure, the win is a win but will that be an issue again this year?
Should Wyoming land on 6 – 6 that game could be the one that costs this program a bowl appearance? The money the Bobcats gave to the Cowboys for that game will never equal a bowl game cash out so I still just don’t get it.
Anyway, the Cowboys have a trip to Hawaii next weekend so maybe that could earn them that sixth win of 2021. The line setters are pointing to a home win for the Aggies but the line is only 5. It’s not like the Cowboys are being shown no respect so they have a fighter’s chance here.
Then you really start to look over the entirety of this schedule for Wyoming and it is hard to envision them giving Utah State the battle of their lives.
Wyoming is expected to be missing Alex Brown and Hayden Eberhardt so that will put even more emphasis on the production of Isaiah Neyor. Neyor is already Mr. Everything in this passing game so he will likely be up to the task of delivering a few big plays.
By the same token, this Cowboys team has been without big plays all year because the offense simply doesn’t have enough firepower to compete.
Sean Chambers only has 1100 passing yards this year and he’s been sacked 13 times with a 6 – 7 TD to INT ratio. Yeah, that is no good, man!
Utah State Aggies
The Aggies have no need to feel nervous and they shouldn’t be afraid of Wyoming one damn but this weekend. I don’t know what the oddsmakers are trying to do with the -5 line and maybe there is a reason for it that I am missing.
The Aggies should roll up the score and have a field day with the Cowboy defense that is great against the pass but can’t stop the run to save the light.
Logan Bonner has thrown 25 TD passes in 2021 and he better damn well have 30 by the end of this game. Yes, the Wyoming defense ranks 4th in the nation against the pass but have you seen any passing teams on their schedule? I don’t, so they should be ranked up there with the amount of shit they have gone up against in 2021.
Utah State is about to put up 55 points and I don’t need to get into rankings, stats, or your pants to tell you that all you need to do is lay the chalk and enjoy the TD win, at least, for the Aggies.
Have you ever heard the name Deven Thompkins? Oh, just look him up when you get a chance. The dude has put up a mere 1,441 receiving yards this season and he along with Derek Wright account for 16 of Bonner’s 25 TD strikes. They will both be seen in the end zone this weekend and you can take that to the bank!
