Conference Championship college football sees the Hilltoppers and Roadrunners meet on Friday night at the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.
The Hilltoppers are favored by a point in this Conference USA Championship Game being played at the Alamodome this Friday night at 7 p.m ET on CBS Sports.
Western Kentucky sure found their way in emphatic fashion taking out Marshall in the deciding game to earn this spot in the Conference USA title game. Let’s be sure to point out that Marshall had a halftime lead that was completely evaporated by the Hilltoppers.
We still don’t know why Grant Wells just suddenly disappeared to begin the 3rd quarter and he was never seen again for the Herd. His absence sure made the Hilltoppers defense look sharp as a tack.
UTSA obviously, had their perfect season erased last weekend and we can only surmise that coach Jeff Traylor wanted the boys to look ahead to this affair. Why they would lose their final regular-season game to North Texas is beyond some of us, but maybe UTSA just wanted to ensure another C-USA squad became bowl eligible?
Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
We can assume that Toppers’ Head Coach Tyson Helton had one sign posted in the locker room this week… 52 – 46!
That was the score for the first meeting between these two teams as UT-San Antonio went off on the Hilltopper defense. Frank Harris? Oh, he only threw 6 TD passes and even caught one too as he basically carried UTSA on his back to that win.
Slowing down Harris is the obvious goal against the 14th ranked team in scoring that puts up about 37 points a pop this season.
Did you see the Hilltoppers go out and take it to Marshall last week? I watched that whole damn thing and I ran to my discord channel to tell everyone to bang the Hilltoppers live when they were down and we found out Wells mysteriously wouldn’t be returning for the Herd.
They never said a word other than we just don’t know why he left the game so there is not even an update out there to give. He took himself out apparently injured last in the 2nd quarter but nothing was really made of it.
That’s when Bailey Zappe proved to be the man as he came out guns a blazing to start the second half. The Hilltoppers were held to only two field goals in the first half but you obviously see the 53 – 21 final score. Zappe went off for 324 yards and 4 TDs completing 25 of his 48 attempts and the special team’s effort surely added to the mix.
UTSA Roadrunners
Seriously, what did Jeff Traylor say to his guys last week before the North Texas outing? We don’t need this win, guys, the C-USA title win is much more important to us so just go out and don’t get hurt.
I think many of us were taken back by the loss I mean a perfect regular season opportunity comes around how often again? Especially here in San Antonio who we know always goes 11 – 0 to start their seasons… uh, yeah, no they don’t!
So, rebound it is from the loss while Western Kentucky rides into this game on a huge high after wiping the floor with Marshall last weekend.
Frank Harris really wasn’t asked to do a damn thing against the Mean Green. Harris stood around even when he was in there looking like he had no interest in being a big-game guy on that day. Even Josh Adkins got in the game for a minute and he did almost as much as you and I did from home.
Adkins was 3 of 9 passing and got sacked 4 times. Let’s just say when you get sacked more than the number of completions you have that about sums that effort up.
That won’t be the case, of course, on Friday night, at least it better not be because that won’t get a damn thing done against a Hilltopper team that wants this game and wants it bad.
Especially since this UTSA team took out Western Kentucky on October 9, 52 – 46. Ahh, that explains the 72 on this total, right?
