Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Wake Forest was #10 going into their game with Louisville last weekend. Did you read my James Madison / Louisville preview I have posted here on the site? Oh, feel free to go laugh your ass off a little because that’s how I roll.
Wake Forest got their asses handed to them so bad by Louisville, that I am shocked that #1, they didn’t fall out of the rankings, and #2, that they’re favored by -4.5 points on the road this weekend. I’ll sum up what I said about how the Wake game played out last weekend, but it was so bad do I have to?
The Louisville defense basically took over the game in the second half after Wake had taken a 14 – 13 lead to the locker room. The Cardinals caused 6 turnovers in the 3rd quarter alone and they had two defensive touchdowns on interception returns making Big Sam look pretty bad!
Sam Hartman seemed to keep his composure on the sidelines even though everyone around him fell apart too. I mean overall the Deacons had 8 turnovers and 8 sacks against them, and the 48 – 21 score tells you how the second half went from a 14 – 13 lead to disaster.
Is this game going to be 45- 42? Right? How crazy would a third straight 45 – 42 affair be when these two get together? Last year, the Deacons were the ones on the winning end of the 45 – 42 result, and the year before Wake Forest lost by the same score. Wake Forest has scored no less than 42 points in the last 3 meetings with N.C State.
I am dying to see how they rebound from that effort last weekend, because I watched it happen with my own eyes. Hartman and his offense were just continually sent off the field with heads down and momentum fully against them constantly. It was like a bus vs a 5-year-old kid in tug of war, and it got ugly for one of them… Wake was that kid last weekend!
N.C State Wolfpack
So, what does Dave Doeren need to do this weekend? Let’s go on that limb and assume that he’ll be in the video room with the defense this week watching how Louisville put the clamps on #10 and his offense. He hasn’t had any success keeping Wake off the scoreboard over the last three years,
It’s homecoming weekend in Raleigh, and that will inspire the crowd even more hoping to keep that perfect record at Carter-Finley this year. The Pack are 5 – 0 here, and next weekend’s game against Boston College will wrap up the home portion of the regular season schedule.
Oh, Louisville will waiting for them after that BC affair, and as usual the North Carolina / NC State game will end the season before we all go bowling again. Both teams already have 6 wins, although I still don’t understand the Charleston Southern stuff, but whatever, a wins a win I guess.
Isn’t it amazing looking at the stats from last weekend’s win over Virginia Tech? I didn’t get to see the game myself, I just had a live score open and noticed that first half was a sleeper. N.C State led 3 – 0 at halftime and then Virginia Tech did all of their scoring in the 3rd quarter seemingly on their way to a win. When it was 21 – 3, I had the Wolfpack dead and buried, but then the fight in them came out. I saw the highlights of the final 3 touchdowns that were passes out of the paw of MJ Morris.
Morris ended the game 265 yards completing 20 of his 26 attempts, and Thayer Thomas caught 10 of those balls for 118 yards with a pair of scores. Now, the obvious issue is that this will be Morris’ second start of his career on Saturday. Now that we know that Devin Leary is done for the year, Morris is being asked to finish the job that Leary started, and last weekend was a good way to make your first ever start with a win in that fashion.
He could have easily used the excuses of how the first half played out and that maybe he wasn’t cut out for the 1st team just yet. I think he put some of that to rest with that effort, but I am still concerned and I don’t see him putting up 300 yards this weekend, or anytime soon for that matter.

4* Free Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. N.C State Wolfpack NCAA Betting Final Analysis:
Morris is the issue with the line here, and Wake has the QB and the team to go in here and put last weekend behind them. Louisville’s defense is so unassuming and they are going to make everyone look bad from here on out so don’t be ashamed. Wake will not hang their head, and their defense better get after young Morris!
