The Virginia Tech Hokies hope to finish their regular season with a win against their slumping, in-state rivals, the Virginia Cavaliers in Blacksburg, Va.
While the Hokies have thrived and the Cavaliers have struggled, rivalry games tend to bring out the best in even the worst teams, so expect a hard-fought matchup between both teams in this one.
Despite notching big wins against Central Michigan and Duke, it’s been a season to forget for the Virginia Cavaliers.
Simply put, the team has been awful and will most likely finish with just two wins this year.
Led by quarterback Kurt Benkert, the Cavaliers haven’t won a game since Oct. 1, and the losses they’ve had haven’t really been close.
During their current six-game skid, the Cavaliers are losing by nearly 14 points per game while struggling on both sides of the ball.
Virginia is averaging 17 points per game over its last three contests while surrendering 31 points in the same span.
Despite Virginia’s struggles, the Cavaliers have played surprisingly well against the Hokies over the last few years.
Virginia has lost the last two meetings by a combined seven points, so the team saves its best for its in-state rival.
With a horrible season nearly complete, I imagine the Cavaliers will want to salvage what they can against the Hokies.
Virginia Tech Hokies
It wasn’t pretty, but the Virginia Tech Hokies escaped South bend with an impressive come-from-behind victory over Notre Dame on Saturday.
The Hokies trailed 23-6 deep into the second quarter, but the impressive quarterback play of Jerod Evans, who was responsible for more than 330 yards of total offense and three touchdowns, helped Tech leave with a 34-31 win.
At 8-3 (5-2), the Hokies are second in the ACC Coastal behind North Carolina. They’ve fared well against conference foes this season, though their defense has slipped over the last couple of weeks.
Virginia Tech has allowed at least 30 points in three of its last four games, though it’s unlikely that Virginia will score that many points this week.
The Hokies haven’t lost to their in-state rivals since 2003, and that streak should continue this year.

Free Week 13 NCAA Football Prediction
Rivalry games tend to bring out the best in teams, no matter how poorly they’ve played. While Virginia has been awful this year, the Cavaliers are sure to give it all they’ve got against their hated rivals.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Virginia +20
I realize that Virginia Tech is the far superior team, but rivalry games are almost always closer than expected. Yes, it’s been a difficult season for the Cavaliers, but they’ve been incredibly competitive against the Hokies over the last few years.
I expect that to continue on Saturday.
