Week 4 college football sees the Cavs and Orange meeting at the JMA Wireless Dome on Friday night.
The Orange are favored by -10.5 points in this ACC matchup, and we have a 53 showing on the total that started up at 54.5.
Virginia Cavaliers
Brennan Armstrong opted to come back to college and skip the opportunity for a job in the NFL. Can you blame him? Having fun playing football and doing it for a living are two different animals, and I appreciate that he didn’t just rush in and go pro.
Armstrong only secured 2nd-Team All-ACC honors a season ago, and even though most of his offensive line is in rebuilding mode he still chose to be a Cavalier in 2022. So far, well, not so great.
I don’t know if you are impressed with the 2 – 1 start to the campaign, but I am not seeing a team that will put any fear in any team and that’s why the line setters are disrespecting them. A double-digit line shows little respect for the program and Syracuse is certainly playing well out of the gate at 3 – 0.
You could hear the breath of the entire Cavalier crowd being held when Brendan Farrell came on the field to kick the last-second field goal last weekend. Down 14 – 13 with one last chance to secure a win, Farrell booted the 26-yard field goal through the uprights and it made what was supposed to be an easy win into nothing like that.
Armstrong now needs to take what Tony Elliot learned at Clemson as their OC, and the two of them need to start working harder to produce results. Barely scratching out 16 points against Old f**king Dominion is not going to send this team into ACC play in strong fashion.
Syracuse Orange
Dino Babers already has his program halfway to a bowl bid, and with 3 wins through 3 games the Cuse will enjoy home-cooking until October 22 when they head to Clemson. Syracuse will play their homecoming game against Wagner next weekend and then a bye will follow before they play host to N.C State on October 15.
A favorable schedule has panned out well for a team that has been absent from the bowl picture for 3 years now. By the same token, the rest of the schedule isn’t looking as easy when ACC play kicks in, so finding these early wins might be huge if this team gets stuck on 6 wins even with the Wagner win we can already give them.
Did you see last weekend’s game? It was 9 – 3 at halftime and yours truly had the under posted for that game right here at capperspicks. Yup, I know what happened in the second-half because I sat here and watched it all unfold. I had a 58.5 on the board with 12 first-half points scored and missed the under. I know!
The second half against Purdue was outrageous, and I thought when Purdue scored that final touchdown to make it 29 – 25 with only 50 ticks left that we were going to still be ok. Syracuse can’t drive the length of the field in 50 seconds, to win the game and topple the total in the same breath, can they?
Oh, they can and they did, and I am still recovering from it three days later! Boilermaker QB Aidan O’ Connell threw for 424 yards with 3 TD passes, and Cuse QB Garrett Shrader ended the day with only 181 passing yards matching the 3 TD passes. Shrader only completed 13 passes in the entire game and he found himself running the ball 18 times in the 32 – 29 win over Purdue.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends

- Over is 13-5 in Cavaliers last 18 vs. a team with a winning record.
4* Free Virginia Cavaliers vs. Syracuse Orange NCAA Betting Final Analysis:
Who is moving this total down to 53? Are you the one pouring your money on the Under after seeing what happened last weekend in that second half of the Cuse game? Tackling is optional and I don’t think I can play an under again after missing it last weekend in that fashion. I will go with Virginia to cover this double-digit spread though, because this should be a close game that comes down to the final possession again.
