Week 3 college football sees UConn and Army meet at Michie Stadium.
The UConn Huskies coach obviously left the program last Monday and Lou Spanos took over on an interim basis. Let’s call it week to week, in fact, because apparently, the job is still an open sign on it from what the UConn officials are saying. The program brought in Noel Mazzone this week as what is being termed as an offensive analyst? Uh, well, is he a coach? An assistant coach? An analyst in the film room? What the hell is an offensive analyst? LoL Twitter has the news posted.
Anyway, if things get any worse they can call in the National Guard at some point and hope they can provide a spark for the program. Randy Edsall said goodbye to his program last Monday and now the team is really becoming unraveled. Purdue laid a can of whoop-ass on the Huskies, 49 – 0, last weekend, and that extends the UConn losing streak to 7 games dating back to last season. Off to an 0 – 3 start, the odds of UConn turning it all around in a quick fashion do not look like a reality.
Meanwhile, Army is coming off a 38 – 35 win over Western Kentucky last weekend as an emotional 9/11 military academy program took the W here at Michie. Army gets 3 consecutive home games with Miami Ohio coming to West Point next weekend. The Black Knights will make trips to Ball State and Wisconsin with a bye week sandwiched in-between to start October.
The Black Knights are favored by -33.5 points in this Independent matchup.
UConn Huskies
Well, the move to the Independent Conference hasn’t helped UConn get off to a very good start in 2021. They have already had their own coach walk away from the program and the UConn AD still seems like he is chasing a head coach. Lou Spanos took over for the Purdue outing and apparently his job as the interim head coach might not be a long one.
At this point, something certainly needs to be changed because even the battle against Yale on October 16 could be what stands in the way of an 0’fer season. That is right, as you look over the UConn schedule the rest of the way, the wins will be hard to find. October 9th against UMass and that said bout with Yale might be the best two opportunities the Huskies will have to find 2 wins in 2021. UConn finishes the year with Clemson, Central Florida, and Houston, and they will be dogs in each of those games, make no mistake about it.
Well, pick a quarterback?
Jack Zergiotis has completed 29 of 65 pass attempts and averages 3 yards per toss with 3 picks and 3 scores. I said averages 3 yards a pass, man!
Steven Krajewski has completed 16 of his 31 pass attempts for 110 yards and one INT.
Kevin Mensah has his hands full trying to run the ball behind this O-Line as he only has grabbed 107 on 40 carries.
They didn’t even kick a field goal in the Purdue game so can we just call it this the mess it is and move on? Thanks, appreciate it!
Army Black Knights
Army appeared to have the 9/11 win under control as they held a nice, comfy 35 – 14 lead in the 4th quarter. Western Kentucky did not lie down without a fight and outscored Army 21 – 3 down the stretch to pull the game within a field goal final, 38 – 35. (Thanks guys, we had that Hilltoppers spread posted and took it home!)
The Black Knights now have to rebound a bit from that but luckily, they get UConn favored by nearly 5 TDs at home.
Army is certainly aware of the conditions on the other side of the Tri-State area, but there is no way that coach Monken is going to let the Black Knights sit back and relax. UConn is a football team like any other football team to Jeff Monken and a surprise upset would devastate any progress to his 2 – 0 program in 2021.
Bronx native Christian Anderson threw the ball 6 times!!! Yes, that deserves 3 exclamation marks, I mean what? An Army QB threw the ball and went 5 for 6 with 77 yards and a score? Wait, you mean like, Army? The West Point Army Football team threw the ball? Nah, come on, you’re just F**king with me now LOL
I know, it was wild to watch and it was one gorgeous Saturday for 9/11 up here in my neck of the woods near West Point.
This should be another opportunity for Army to just do what they do and give Anderson some more spots to work on his passing skills. The spread is large is it just a matter of if you like playing heavy favorites or not. UConn’s chances of winning this game are slim to none and this is not going to be a ‘Any Given Sunday’ type of rally for the Huskies.
