Week 11 college football sees the Knights and Green Wave meeting at Yulman Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Wave are favored by -2 points in this AAC matchup between a pair of ranked teams inside the Top-25. Control of the top spot in the American Athletic Conference is at stake!
UCF Knights
So, we’re underdogs in Tulane this weekend! Would you like to be the dude that walks into the locker room after a good day of practice to tell everyone in the room that they can’t beat Tulane this weekend? OH, BABY!
Please, if they could let me be the fly on that wall, right? Man, this is the game of the year in the American, and there are no Bearcats or Cougars on the field either! I can find plenty of outlets and pundits calling for UCF to be a factor in the chase for the AAC Championship Game before the season started, but Tulane? Hold on, who?
I also imagine that everyone in this locker room is looking around reminding everyone that beating Tulane is a birthright when you play for UCF. The Knights have taken the last 3 meetings over the last 3 years, so every senior on the UCF roster is like Pepperidge Farms… They Remember!
OH EJ
Oh, Ej didn’t just get all old-school on your ass, did he? Come on, if you open any of my articles here, you know something’s coming! Anyway.
Gus Malzahn is in his second campaign with UCF, and last year the Knights were favored to crush a pretty bad Tulane team and they simply didn’t. A 14 – 10 win was the best the Knights could manage as Tulane went on to a 2 – 10 disaster of a year. This is not last year’s Tulane team, however, so there is reason to not just assume walking into New Orleans is going to be a cake-walk. Hey, UNDERDOGS, remember!
And then, it hits you like a ton of bricks, right in the kisser! John Rhys Plumlee might be missing a second straight game, and if he sits out of this one? Mikey Keane is going to do what to Tulane’s defense? OH STOP IT! Stop talking right now, because I will say it right now so we can move on.
NO PLUMLEE? NO CHANCE!
Tulane Green Wave
My goodness, what a turn around for Willie Fritz and his 2 – 10 Green Wave. He has a lot of balls sitting a top the conference standings at 5 – 0 and in position to take control of their own destiny. Hey, they are already in that position because have you looked ahead to what they have left on the schedule?
Oh, nothing much, just an SMU team that just dumped 77 points on Houston last weekend, and the Bearcats, pfft. Yowza, baby! I mean talk about throwing the coals on the fire, so it all comes down to this and the final 3 games of the season.
Bowl eligibility is already well-earned, but this program has not won a Conference Championship since 1998 when they were still Conference USA competitors. If you recall, that 2018 campaign they were tied with Memphis as co-Division winners but Memphis earned the tie-breaking scenario that sent the Tigers to the title game that year.
What’s Going On?
So, what happened here, and why is Tulane 8 – 1 after so many sub-par campaigns under Willie Fritz? They’ve basically been about .500 or worse in all 6 of his campaigns here, so this has everyone in the Bayou happier than being Creole chowing the Gumbo! Well, okay that’s debatable, but to get UCF at home to exact some of the revenge for these seniors who have one last shot at the Knights before they go out 0 – 4.
The Wave’s entire receiving corps is basically full of Seniors, and they’ll be celebrated next weekend when Tulane wraps up their home portion of this year’s regular season schedule. Oh, that will be fun when SMU comes calling with what will likely be another high-profile affair in the AAC.
No Problemo
The problem is that none of them really get too many opportunities to contribute to the wins, because the ground game does most of, if not almost all of the damage. When your leading wideout only has 20 receptions for 383 yards and you have played 9 games, I’ll let you add that up. one thing that is impressive the average per catch numbers this team does accumulate, however, they just don’t get enough balls.
I am concerned a bit about that balance, or lack there of, which is another reason why the line setters are telling us to pick the winner of the game to make your money.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Knights are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games.
- Underdog is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 meetings.
- Green Wave are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November.
4* Free UCF Knights vs. Tulane Green Wave NCAA Betting Final Analysis:
Damnit, tough game to predict, really it is. I can have fun with the write up and all, but who will win this game? I wish that I see Plumlee take the field, and if he does, I will tell you now that I will have UCF in that case. So, if Plumlee is able to go, we have UCF so play it accordingly.
