Red Raiders vs. Beavers Gameday
No. 13 Texas Tech makes its first road trip of the season Saturday when it visits Oregon State at Reser Stadium. The Red Raiders are 1-0 after beating Abilene Christian 33-10, while the Beavers are 0-1 following a 33-20 loss at Houston.
Texas Tech produced 471 total yards in its opener, with Will Hammond throwing for 298 yards in his return from last season’s ACL injury. The Red Raiders weren’t as efficient in the red zone as they wanted, settling for four field goals despite scoring on all five trips inside the 20.
Texas Tech’s defense held Abilene Christian to 194 total yards and no offensive touchdowns.
Oregon State had a much different opener, throwing for 376 yards while finishing with only 26 on the ground. The Beavers trailed Houston by 19 in the third quarter before cutting the deficit to six, but the Cougars answered with the final touchdown.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET on CBS. Texas Tech leads the all-time series 2-0, including a 45-14 victory over Oregon State last season in Lubbock.

It’s Week 2, Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Oregon State Beavers, hopefully we get a great matchup.
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Oregon State Beavers Odds & Last 5
Texas Tech is a massive road favorite, laying 26.5 points at most books after opening around -29.5. The Red Raiders are priced well above -3000 on the moneyline, while Oregon State is available around +1600 to +1700. The total opened at 51.5 and has climbed into the 53.5 range.
That’s a substantial number for a road favorite.
Texas Tech won its opener by 23 points but failed to cover a spread north of 40 against Abilene Christian. The Red Raiders controlled the game statistically, although repeatedly settling for field goals prevented the margin from getting larger.
Oregon State covered as a sizable underdog against Houston. The Beavers rallied from a 26-7 deficit to make it 26-20 in the fourth quarter before Houston put the game away with a late touchdown.
Beavers Stats
Oregon State’s offense was almost entirely dependent on its passing game against Houston. The Beavers finished with 402 total yards, but only 26 came on the ground as Houston consistently won at the line of scrimmage.
Braden Atkinson kept Oregon State moving through the air.
Atkinson completed 29 of 48 passes for 376 yards and a touchdown without an interception. He also scored on a three-yard run, although four Houston sacks contributed heavily to Oregon State’s poor net rushing total.
Jesse Legree delivered the biggest plays for the Beavers.
The true freshman caught five passes for 136 yards and a touchdown, including a 71-yard reception that set up Oregon State’s opening score. Eric Olsen added four catches for 54 yards, while eight different Beavers recorded at least one reception.
Oregon State’s defense had a difficult afternoon, surrendering 533 total yards and 33 points. Houston rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per carry, an area the Beavers must improve before facing Texas Tech.

Red Raiders Stats
Texas Tech controlled Abilene Christian despite leaving points on the field. The Red Raiders finished with 471 total yards, including 298 through the air and 173 on the ground, while possessing the football for more than 32 minutes.
Will Hammond looked comfortable in his return from knee surgery.
Hammond completed his first 14 passes and finished 26 of 33 for a career-high 298 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He wasn’t sacked, which was another encouraging sign after returning from the ACL injury that ended his 2025 season.
J’Koby Williams led the rushing attack with 71 yards and a touchdown.
Kenny Johnson paced the receivers with 76 yards, while Malcolm Simmons caught Hammond’s only touchdown pass. Texas Tech moved the football consistently but had to settle for Stone Harrington field goals on three red-zone possessions.
The Red Raiders were far more efficient defensively. Abilene Christian managed only 194 total yards, including 119 through the air, while Texas Tech recorded three sacks and an interception. ACU’s lone touchdown came on a 98-yard kickoff return late in the fourth quarter.

Red Raiders vs. Beavers QB Matchup
Will Hammond and Braden Atkinson both enter Week 2 after productive season debuts. Hammond returned from a significant knee injury to direct a comfortable Texas Tech victory, while Atkinson generated most of Oregon State’s offense in his first start for the Beavers.
Hammond’s accuracy was the most encouraging part of his return.
The Texas Tech quarterback completed nearly 79 percent of his passes and wasn’t sacked on 33 attempts. His only major mistake was a second-quarter interception, and the bigger concern for the Red Raiders was finishing drives once they reached the red zone.
Atkinson had to carry a much heavier workload.
The Mercer transfer attempted 48 passes against Houston and connected with eight different receivers. He avoided an interception and accounted for two touchdowns, but four sacks and almost no support from the running game left Oregon State chasing the Cougars for much of the afternoon.
Both quarterbacks showed they can move the football, but Hammond enters with the stronger supporting cast. Atkinson’s challenge is keeping Oregon State competitive without being forced into another game where the Beavers need nearly 50 pass attempts.
Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Oregon State Beavers bottom line: Texas Tech brings the more balanced roster, while Oregon State needs significant improvement from its running game to keep pressure off Atkinson.

Red Raiders Beavers Free Pick: Red Raiders -26.5
Here is my Red Raiders Beavers free pick: I’m laying Texas Tech -26.5 in Corvallis. The Red Raiders weren’t perfect in their opener, but Oregon State’s inability to run the football makes this a difficult matchup to keep close.
Houston held the Beavers to 26 rushing yards and sacked Braden Atkinson four times. Oregon State still threw for 376 yards, but that production came on 48 attempts while playing from behind for most of the afternoon.
Texas Tech can put the Beavers in that same position.
The Red Raiders allowed only 194 total yards and no offensive touchdowns in their opener.
Will Hammond completed 26 of 33 passes for 298 yards in his return from a torn ACL. Texas Tech settled for four field goals against Abilene Christian, including three after reaching the red zone. That’s an area where I expect improvement.
Oregon State’s defense allowed Houston to pile up 533 yards, including 228 on the ground. That gives Texas Tech multiple ways to attack instead of putting everything on Hammond.
The Red Raiders also beat Oregon State 45-14 last season. I’m not relying on that result, but the current matchup still points toward Texas Tech controlling both lines.
Once Oregon State becomes one-dimensional, this should open up. I’m laying Texas Tech -26.5.
