Week 4 college football sees the Aggies and Razorbacks meet at Razorback Stadium.
A pair of ranked undefeated SEC programs meet for this divisional game on Saturday and Arkansas is hoping to reverse some history. The Aggies have grabbed 9 straight wins in this series since the Hogs joined the SEC in 2012. However, 5 of the last 7 meetings have been decided by one score so it might be another tightly contested affair.
The stage will be a big one again as these two return to AT&T Stadium after not being able to play here in 2020. Last year’s meeting took place at College Station which amounted to a 42 – 31 win for the home team.
The Aggies enter the big house at Arlington ranked 7th in the nation and are listed as slight favorites to take this tilt. By the same token, this team has wins over Kent State, Colorado, and New Mexico outscoring the 3 of them 85 – 17. Let’s call that one helluva weak schedule!
The Hogs have taken out Rice, Texas, and GA Southern to navigate their way to 3 – 0, and oh, Georgia is on deck next weekend for Pig Suey. Luckily, KJ Patterson decided to do something no one has done at Arkansas in 5 years last weekend in the win over Southern.
The Aggies are favored by -5.5 points in this SEC West Division matchup.
Texas A & M Aggies
Jimbo Fisher knows defense, and that is partly responsible for why this total is set so low at 47. Now, we know the schedule A&M took on to start 2021 is full of shit programs, so being ranked in the top-10 is all well and good. This is another animal and a rivalry game that brings out emotions that can change games completely.
Do the Aggies have the Hogs number? Obviously, so the job at hand is to continue their winning way against Arkansas and get out of AT&T Stadium with another win. I do not think it will be as easy as that this time and this is certainly the biggest test of the season thus far.
Hanes King is out of this game which means Zach Calzada has the reigns under center for the next month+. King fractured his right ankle and could be gone until November, so this is also why this total is low. Calzada and King are the 3rd and 4th leading rushers on this team and Calzada really isn’t going to pose much of a threat with his legs.
Spiller and Achane better run like the dickens because it really will depend on their productivity to move this offense. This game might be 3 – 0 HT LoL
Arkansas Razorbacks
KJ Jefferson busted out for 366 passing yards last weekend and we have not seen numbers like that put up in Fayetteville since 2016. With a relatively pedestran 13 for 23 overall, the 3 passing TD helped contribute to a 633-yard day overall last weekend. That will boost to ole total yards ranking to 22nd in the nation but the Aggies’ defense ranks #1 against the pass in all of the land.
Now, this is where rankings tell little about a real story because Arkansas certainly knows that the Aggies being 0 – 3 impresses no one and puts fear in even fewer people.
It is plain and simple that these two know each other, they know each other well, and 3 – 0 could be 0 – 3 and this game would be just as big anyway. It’s the damn Southwest Classic for God’s sake, man! Friendly foes? Love for each other? Yeah, uh NO!
Jefferson’s numbers last weekend certainly look good, but overall he still only has 632 passing yards and a 4 – 2 TD to INT ratio. I think we all expect him to struggle this weekend against a defense that will throw the kitchen sink at him on Saturday. He will have to use those legs of his again, which he is certainly capable of doing if the Hogs have any chance to win this game.
It won’t hurt that Jefferson is one of 5 different backs who are already over 100-yards through only 3 games either. That’s right, I said the Hogs have 5 dudes who can tote the rock and it has been their bread and butter so far. We know this by the little #8 sitting next to their rushing yards ranking in FBS that averages 282.3 ypg.
