Week 11 college football sees the Cardinal and Beavers meet at Reser Stadium.
The Beavers are favored by 12.5 points in this Pac 12 Conference matchup although they will be rooting heavily for Washington State to upset the Ducks this weekend on top of their own concerns.
Should Oregon find a win over the Cougars this weekend the Ducks will clinch their way to the Pac 12 title game representing the North Division. The only way there will be meaning for the Civil War on the last day of the year is if Oregon State wins out and the Ducks lose their final 3 games. Hopefully for Beavs fans that all start right here in Corvallis this weekend with a big win over the struggling Cards.
Seeing Stanford expected to lose by this margin has got to be tough for David Shaw who was hoping to keep his program at the top of the standings. Stanford hasn’t seen the post-season since 2018 and it is Shaw’s 11th year with this program. Granted, 2020 did end positively with a 4 – 2 record but there was no post-season and we just saw another Pac 12 game canceled this weekend due to Covid-19.
The USC / Cal game will not be played on Saturday due to the outbreak with the Bears program so hopefully, it won’t lead to more PPD games in California again.
Stanford Cardinal
Head Coach David Shaw hears the chatter and a 3 – 6 campaign certainly doesn’t look good in front of all the wicked smart people at Stanford. The brain trust has not been able to piece together any type of success after such an impressive and promising start to the 2021 campaign. Remember now, this team beat USC and Oregon to get to 3 – 2 and then?
Well, you see the record, right? That same 3 – 2 team is now 3 – 6 and the 4-game losing streak came to an ugly head last weekend. Utah pounded the Cardinal into submission last weekend, 52 – 7, and things might go from bad to worse.
Do you see the top-4 pass catchers for the Cardinal this season? Ben Yuorsek leads the squad with 475 yards from 30 grabs and he is the tight end. The next three characters in this script are all out leaving running back Austin Jones as the active 2nd-leading receiver playing this weekend.
Elijah Higgins, John Humphreys, and Brycen Tremayne are 2-3-4 on the depth chart and all 3 are sidelined this weekend taking 74 catches, 946 yards and 10 TD grabs out of the mix.
Oh, the guy who is supposed to be getting whoever dresses the ball? Yeah, he’s out too as Tanner KcKee won’t be taking any snaps leaving Jack West as the guy!
So, do you want to put your hard-earned money on the prospects of how Jack West and every backup wideout go this weekend? Yeah, uh no, no you don’t!
Oregon State Beavers
Oregon State could be favored by 3-4 TD and it wouldn’t scare me this weekend. Stanford is basically showing up to Corvallis with a team of players who have no experience playing together but for a few practices. Sure, they might come out fired up to keep their hopes up but reality will set in and the Beavers will take control of this game.
Luckily, we don’t even have that big of a line to chase with 12.5 showing on this offer from the bookmakers and that is okay with us!
The Beaver’s defense? Yeah, that will look different now that Coach Smith told DC Tim Tibesar to pack his bags and get out of town! Last weekend’s loss to Colorado, 37 – 34, was the final straw for Tibesar who has the Beavers ranked 9th in the conference in average yards allowed per play and ranks 108th against the pass giving up 262 YPG.
It should work out for whoever takes over for Tibesar being that Stanford has so much going on with injuries.
Oregon State is simply going to run the ball, run the ball, and run the ball some more this weekend so expect a big dose of B.J Baylor on Saturday. Baylor will go over the 1,000-yard mark with 30 yards this weekend and will likely add to his 11 TD tally as well. Just look for some dude wearing #4 and expect to see that jersey early and often doing damage.
Mr. Baylor leads the 7th ranked rushing attack in the nation that averages just under 233 YPG on the ground.
