Week 2 college football sees the Gamecocks and Pirates meet at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
Apparently, the South Carolina Gamecocks have this amazing commitment to play and FCS program to start the season. It started in 2008 and a big win over Eastern Illinois has the team 1 – 0 again to start the year. How the F**K an SEC program makes that type of commitment is beyond all of us, so yay! 1 – 0 it is LoL
The Pirates had a tougher assignment and took on a game Appalachian State squad that is arguably the best team in the Sun Belt Conference. The 33 – 19 loss was to be expected as the line setters had the Mountaineers favored by nearly 10 points.
This line was -2 towards ECU after last weekend and now we see a -2 attached to the Gamecocks. That 46 – 0 beat down of Eastern Illinois really made a big impression with the oddsmakers, apparently.
The Gamecocks are favored by 2 points in this SEC vs. AAC matchup.
South Carolina Gamecocks
Favored by 2 points and it didn’t even start out that was as ECU was favored on the opening line. The people have spoken and no one is apparently buying what ECU is selling as the Cocks now hold the chalk at -2.
Eastern Illinois! Does that deserve one helluva ‘Come on Man’ or what? I don’t think any of us understand an SEC program taking on any FCS teams and letting them count in the standings. It is embarrassing more than anything else IMO but what the hell do I know?!
Anyway, Zeb Noland got the opening day nod last weekend and he went from being a Graduate Assistant to starting QB out of nowhere. Noland was originally at Iowa State way back in 2016 and spent 2019 at North Dakota State and was named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference Honor Roll.
Noland threw for 4 TD passes in the opening day win last weekend and connected with 11 different receivers. Let’s be clear though, he completed 13 passes for 121 yards and really had no pressure to speak of at all and didn’t look all that amazing to anyone except Cock fans.
It was Eastern Illinois for God’s sake! I could go out and throw the ball and complete 13 passes for just over 100 yards against a weak FCS opponent too,… I’ll say it again, come on man!
ECU Pirates
Run game? Oh wait, you mean we need to run the ball too? Yeah, uh Houston! We have a problem and I mean Mike Houston, not NASA! LoL
ECU only had 12 carries from their running backs last Thursday in the 33 – 19 loss to App State. Their QB had as many rushes as both of them combined and they all combined to only gain 86 yards.
Holton Ahlers basically used his two running backs to hand them the ball and find them in the patterns too. Keaton Mitchell ran the ball 4 times and led the team with 50 yards on the ground. Mitchell also led the team with 5 balls caught for 70 more yards and we just saw Mitchell filling the water coolers an hour ago.
Rahjai Harris carried the ball a team-leading 8 times for only 22 yards but he caught 4 balls for 56 yards. Welcome to the Law Firm of Ahlers Mitchell and Harris out of Greenville, NC.
So, that might be how South Carolina went from +2 to -2 because shutting down 2 guys shouldn’t be a tall order this weekend. The game plan has got to include some other looks and the Pirates only have a week to come up with some new twists in that offense. It’s not going to happen!

Does that say 56 on this total? Uh, excuse me? Yeah, that is a ‘no way Jose!’
I see this as a 31 – 10 game and nothing close to 56 but maybe I am crazy. Ahh, no I am not I am just a capper with a mindset wondering where the hell 56 points are coming from.
