Week 3 college football sees Purdue and Syracuse meeting in the dome, because I can’t bring myself to call it the JMA Wireless Dome!
The Boilermakers are favored by -1.5 points in this non-conference matchup between Big Ten Conference and ACC programs.
Purdue Boilermakers
After a narrow 4-point loss to Penn State to open the season, the Boilermakers had the luxury of facing an FCS program last weekend as they trounced Indiana State, 56 – 0. Slightly favored on the road, the Boilermakers will hope to relive the success from the only other time they met Syracuse in 2004, which amounted to a 51 – 0 drubbing of the Orange.
Making his first trip to the dome, Aiden O’ Connell will be looking to improve on his 5 – 0 TD to INT ratio to start the season. O’ Connell and senior wideout Charlie Jones have connected for 4 of those 5 TD strikes, as Jones has already brought in 21 balls for 286 yards through only 2 games. O’ Connell took home 2nd All-Big Ten honors last year putting up a 28 to 11 TD to INT ratio completing 72% of his tosses, so he is just building his confidence with each start.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. is the closest pass-catcher on the roster with 5 grabs, although 14 different receivers have been used to spread the wealth and keep everyone involved. Head Coach Jeff Brohm has also let 4 different QB’s test their skills on the field which keeps the entire team involved. Brohm being a former QB himself, I am sure he understands that having options at a key position is never a bad thing just in case.
It’s definitely been a run by committee in the offensive back field, as four players are each over double-digit carries already, and 3 of them have seen the end zone. King Doerue has been seen celebrating a score 3 times this year, and his 18 carries lead the squad.
Syracuse Orange
The 2 – 0 Syracuse Orange! I know, right! Well, Dino Babers has the Cuse in form and looking good out of the gate, although there were many outlets calling for an up-season in upstate New York for the ACC program that was 5 – 7 a season ago. Babers has seen his program left out of the post-season for three straight years running, this being his 7th leading Syracuse.
Garrett Shrader has exceeded expectation thus far, and the offense has looked like they have been working well together putting up 79 points through two games. Shrader has yet to throw a pick and has tossed 5 balls into the end zone that have been caught for scores. The Orange has had 5 different receivers catch TD passes and if Shrader distributes the ball well this weekend he could possibly have 4 pass-catchers over 100 yards through only 3 games.
Sean Tucker toppled the century mark last weekend, as he leads the Cuse with 102 receiving yards averaging over 10 YPC. DeVaughn Cooper and Oronde Gadsden II are each over the 80-yard mark and Courtney Jackson only needs 25 yards to get to turn the century.
In case you haven’t noticed yet, Sean Tucker is also the teams leading rusher along with Shrader, so those two are basically going to control the entire dynamic of the offense. Tucker has carried the rock 48 times and has amassed 210 yards on the ground to go with those 102 through the air.
Let’s just put it this way, when #6 doesn’t have the ball in his hands, #34 will and everyone else just needs to chip in and ride the wave!

4* Free Purdue Boilermakers vs. Syracuse Orange NCAA Betting Final Analysis:
The trends toward the under are overwhelming, and I do agree that 58.5 is a bit too high here. I also just noticed that Syracuse is turning into the favorite at a handful of books, so home field advantage might just present some issues for the Boilers.
