ACC Championship college football sees the Panthers and Demon Deacons meet at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday night at 8 p.m ET on ABC.
The Panthers are favored by 3 points in this ACC title game matchup and you might want to strap in for one insane shootout!
What is this score going to be when two high-scoring offenses play against a pair of defenses that haven’t exactly stood tall in 2021?
I think we all know why this total is close to 72 and that reveals some of the expectations for this year’s ACC title game in Charlotte. When two top-10 offenses take the same field it usually amounts to some points being found.
The Panthers are favored by a field goal in this game but we all know that certainly doesn’t make them the better team. In fact, since I invented the Thinkdog Forum back in 1998 I will go on that limb and say it in NO WAY means that a team is better than the other.
Pittsburgh Panthers
All right, Pitt is favored here and that really doesn’t convince me that the Panthers are going to win this game. The Pitt defense couldn’t stop a passing game all season and guess what the Deacons like to do? When you put up 315.5 YPG and rank 11th in the nation in passing that will wrap that discussion up.
Slowing down that train will be a tall order but luckily, Pittsburgh has one of the most experienced QBs in the land in Kenny Pickett. Pickett has only thrown 40 TD passes in 2021, that’s all. You know, just 40!
The sacks are a little out of control being that he has seen the ground 26 times but he makes up for it with his arm and he can certainly know when a pocket is breaking down to escape and make something out of nothing.
Israel Abanikanda, Vincent Davis, and Rodney Hammond Jr. will all see the ball out of the backfield and they all know what to do when they get it. This trio has combined to tote the rock 320 times for 1,553 yards on the ground and then there is the dude…
There’s this guy, okay. He wears #3 and uh, he is fucking awesome! Pickett has gotten Jordan Addison the ball 85 times and that has amounted to 1353 receiving yards for the dude! Addison has gone over the century mark in 6 games this season and none were better than the 200+ he gained against Virginia two weeks ago.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
Wake Forest and Pittsburgh aren’t that far apart in their approach and we know this because they are both ranked in the top-11 of so many offensive categories.
Wake’s offense sits at #3 in the nation putting up 42.9 points a contest and their 483.7 YPG ranks them 9th in total yards an outing. Pitt’s offense has been a little better than all of those numbers being a top-6 ranked offense in plenty of categories too.
The Deacs have lost two of their last 4 games and what a shootout the UNC game ended up being. That 58 – 55 final score that left Wake with their first loss of 2021 was still an epic battle to watch.
Wake clinched their spot in this game on the final day of the regular season with a 41- 10 convincing win over Boston College.
Sam Hartman is having quite a campaign with 3,711 passing yards along with a 34-10 TD to INT ratio. Hartman has also seen the ground 26 times, however, as he and Pickett will certainly stay in the pocket a little too long here and there. That’s okay because they both makeup for it in different ways. Sam can run the ball quite a bit better than Pickett and he has found paydirt 10 times on the ground this year.
A.T Perry and Jaquarii Roberson are both over the 1,000-yard mark receiving and the pair have accounted for 21 of Hartman’s 34 TD strikes.
