Here’s why I’m backing an UNDER bet below in my Golden Gophers Hoosiers free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Golden Gophers vs. Hoosiers Gameday
The Minnesota Golden Gophers visit the No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Memorial Stadium in Bloomington. Kickoff is 3:30 PM ET on CBS, with ESPN’s College GameDay also in town. P.J. Fleck has Minnesota at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play. The Gophers have won 4 of their L5, including a hard-fought 13-10 win over Iowa.
Minnesota has been winning ugly, which beats losing pretty every Saturday of the week.
Luke Drzewiecki kicked a 46-yard field goal as time expired to beat the Hawkeyes. Minnesota is 1-1 on the road and faces a much bigger challenge in Bloomington.
Curt Cignetti’s Hoosiers are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play. The defending national champions remain firmly in the playoff conversation.
Indiana survived Michigan 13-6 in overtime last Saturday. It wasn’t pretty offensively, but the Hoosiers’ defense delivered when it mattered.
Minnesota leads the all-time series 40-26-3 and has won 4 straight meetings. The Gophers took the most recent matchup 35-14 in Bloomington in 2021.
Indiana brings the stronger roster and home-field advantage, while Minnesota has shown it can compete in physical games. The Hoosiers are expected to win, but covering a substantial spread is another matter.
It’s Week 9, Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Indiana Hoosiers, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Indiana Hoosiers Odds & Previous Games
Indiana is listed at -1608 on the moneyline, with Minnesota at +905. The Hoosiers are favored by 20.5 points, and the posted total is 42.5.
That spread requires a convincing Indiana performance. The Hoosiers can control the game and still leave bettors holding a losing favorite ticket.
Minnesota beat Michigan 20-14, Washington 27-24 and Akron 41-7 during its recent winning stretch. Its lone loss in the L5 was a 41-13 defeat at Purdue.
Indiana defeated Nebraska 20-17, Rutgers 47-15 and Northwestern 29-23 before losing 19-15 to Ohio State. The Hoosiers responded with their overtime win at Michigan.
Indiana has scored 48 points across its L3 contests. That’s a sharp decline from its earlier offensive production and worth considering against such a large spread.
Minnesota has demonstrated an ability to stay competitive against quality Big Ten opponents. The challenge is producing enough offense to remain within striking distance on the road.

Hoosiers Stats
Indiana has scored 269 points through 8 games, averaging 33.6 PPG. The Hoosiers have produced 1,825 passing yards and 1,532 rushing yards.
Turbo Richard leads the rushing attack with 711 yards and 6 TDs. Lee Beebe Jr. adds another productive option, giving Indiana considerable backfield depth.
Charlie Becker leads the receivers with 42 catches for 726 yards and 8 TDs. His ability to stretch defenses has been an important part of the passing attack.
Indiana’s defense has been carrying the load lately, and the offense owes those guys dinner.
The Hoosiers have surrendered only 96 points, averaging 12.0 PPG allowed. Opponents have managed just 73.1 rushing YPG.
Indiana has recorded 28 sacks and 7 interceptions. Its defensive front has consistently made opposing QBs uncomfortable.
Khobie Martin has been dealing with a forearm injury. Indiana has enough depth to distribute carries if his availability remains limited.
The Hoosiers are allowing 264.6 total YPG. Their defensive consistency has helped compensate for the offense’s recent struggles.
Golden Gophers Stats
Minnesota has scored 186 points through 7 games, averaging 26.6 PPG. The Gophers have generated 1,556 passing yards but only 719 on the ground.
TJ Thomas leads the rushing attack with 325 yards. Darius Taylor has added 174 yards and 5 TDs, although Minnesota needs more consistent production from its backs.
Javon Tracy leads the receivers with 39 catches for 420 yards. His ability to move the chains is valuable for an offense that cannot afford repeated empty possessions.
Minnesota has allowed 141 points, an average of 20.1 PPG. The Gophers have been particularly effective against the pass, surrendering 165.1 passing YPG.
The defense has intercepted 7 passes and shown it can create problems for opposing offenses. Generating pressure without sacrificing coverage will be important against Indiana.
Ryan Estrada and Hayden Moore are out, while tight end Pierce Walsh is doubtful. Those absences reduce Minnesota’s offensive depth.
Defensive tackle Riley Sunram is probable after missing the Iowa game. His return would provide additional help against Indiana’s rushing attack.
Golden Gophers vs. Hoosiers QB Matchup
Josh Hoover has passed for 1,741 yards, 18 TDs and only 1 interception in 8 games. His season-long numbers remain impressive despite Indiana’s recent offensive difficulties.
Hoover completed 8 of 18 passes for 81 yards against Michigan. He also threw his first interception of the season.
The Indiana QB has been dealing with a throwing-shoulder injury and is listed as probable. Cignetti expects him to be available, although his effectiveness remains worth watching.
Grant Wilson provides Indiana with an experienced backup option. The coaching staff considered a change during the Michigan game but stayed with Hoover.
Minnesota counters with Drake Lindsey, who has thrown for 1,472 yards, 9 TDs and 6 interceptions. His completion rate stands at 63.5%.
Lindsey completed 14 of 26 passes for 137 yards against Iowa. He also threw an interception, continuing a season in which ball security has been an issue.
The Gophers need Lindsey to make quicker decisions against Indiana’s pass rush. Holding the ball too long could lead to costly sacks and difficult third downs.

Hoover has the stronger passing numbers and more explosive receiving options. Lindsey has been asked to operate with less offensive support and faces a difficult road assignment.
Both QBs will need to protect possession against aggressive defenses. Mistakes in their own territory could quickly change the complexion of this matchup.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Indiana Hoosiers bottom line: Indiana has the stronger roster and defensive production, but Minnesota’s physical approach could make this a more demanding afternoon than the spread suggests.
Minnesota Golden Gophers vs. Indiana Hoosiers Football Betting Trends
- Minnesota has gone 7-0 on the Over in their last 7 away games.
- Also, the Golden Gophers are 5-0 against the spread as underdogs in their last 5 games.
- As underdogs, Minnesota has won straight up in their last 4 games.
- Indiana has a perfect 29-0 straight up record as favorites in their last 29 games.
- Additionally, the Hoosiers are 28-2 straight up in all games over their last 30 outings.
- Indiana has also gone 28-2 straight up after a win in their last 30 games.
Golden Gophers Hoosiers Free Pick: Under 42.5
Here is my Golden Gophers Hoosiers free pick: I’m on Under 42.5. Indiana is favored by more than 20 points, yet the Hoosiers have managed only 48 points over their L3 games. That’s not exactly an offense I’m eager to trust with a big total.
Minnesota’s best chance is to shorten this game. Fleck knows his team can’t afford a shootout, so expect a steady dose of running plays, manageable third downs and an emphasis on field position.
Indiana can win by 3 TDs without turning this game into a scoring contest.
Hoover’s shoulder adds another reason to expect a conservative approach. Indiana has no reason to expose its QB to unnecessary punishment if the defense is controlling things.
My biggest concern is turnovers creating short fields. That’s how a perfectly reasonable Under gets wrecked in a hurry.
I’m expecting Indiana to control possession while Minnesota struggles to finish drives. The Hoosiers can win comfortably without carrying this total over the number. I’m taking Under 42.5.
