Opening weekend of college football sees the Wolf Pack and Aggies meet at Aggie Memorial Stadium.
The Wolf Pack are favored by 8.5 points in this matchup with a 50.5 showing on the total.
A pair of 1st-year head coaches will lead their team into battle on Saturday when the Wolf Pack and Aggies open the season at Aggie Memorial Stadium. Jerry Kill and Ken Wilson will both be taking over programs that are in different situations.
Jerry Kill is taking over an Aggies program that has not won more than 3 games over the last 4 campaigns, as the Aggies had won only 5 games over the last 3 years to boot.
Ken Wilson is taking over a unit that has been to 4 straight bowl games following up an 8-win campaign in 2021, but the cupboard is dry and there’s a lot of pieces to fill in Reno headed into 2022.
Nevada Wolf Pack
The Wolf Pack are heavily favored to go on the road and find a win to open the new campaign, although only 2 offensive starters are returning.
Ironically, it might one of the coaches who has a big impact this year in Nevada as Wilson has a veteran strength and conditioning coach who is going to have everyone in shape for this game. Actually, beyond that and for the rest of the season for that matter. as Mason Baggett is just an animal of inspiration in this locker room. So much experience in this game to bring to the mix and that will add to Wilson’s ability to rev up his kids and be motivated to get back to a bowl game and keep the 4-year run of post-season appearances going.
The QB battle is still a thing as of Wednesday, and I know this because I am putting this up on Wednesday afternoon and we are still awaiting some news. If you head to Nevada Sportsnet, they have the deal on the players being named as the starters for this game, other than Illington and Cox.
Shane Illington transferred over from Oklahoma State to get more playing time, but incumbent Nate Cox decided to put in the work in the off-season to make this an on-going battle to the last day of camp. I mean, we are days away from this game being played and Wilson is still playing it close to to the hip on who he wants leading this team into his first campaign as the whistle-blower in town.
However, late news provided is making it sound like Cox could be suspended for the season-opening game so be on the lookout for that possibility.
New Mexico State Aggies
The Aggies can’t get much worse than another 2 – 10 campaign, right? Jerry Kill now has the assignment to bring this program back to a bowl game for the first time since 2017. Also keep in mind, that the 2017 appearance was the first and only other post-season game played in Las Cruces since 1960, so anything positive here will bring a sense of Aggie-pride back to town.
The Aggies are only returning 4 of their offensive starters from last year, although 3 of those players are from the offensive line which is a good starting point for any program. There are 65 returning starts on this O-line but they do lose the other two dudes who were outstanding.
Now, the line is all well and good, but you still need quality at your big position on the field and we have no idea what we’re getting out of him. Well, now that I have just sat here reading his entire Twitter and Instagram feeds, I know more about him so maybe this dude is going to provide some spark in Las Cruses. We all know this city is desperate for a winner, and Pavia is hoping to fit the bill.
Coach Dreiling is the third-youngest Defensive Coordinator at the FBS level, and he has 9 of his defensive players returning to work with. That should be beneficial for a program that has given up entirely too many points to stay competitive over the last few years.
The Aggies are 0 – 7 from their last 7 season-openers and Nevada is 14 – 2 all-time against the Aggies.

4* Free Nevada Wolf Pack vs New Mexico State NCAA Betting Final Analysis:
This total is low because a new vigor on defense for the Aggies is also added by the possible Cox suspension for Nevada. That won’t stop me from suggesting we nab the Over 50.5, as I think it’s listed this low trying to get people convinced we will see a low-scoring affair. Late points will come to our aid and 51 is all we need!
