Week 11 college football sees the Golden Gophers and Hawkeyes meet at Kinnick Stadium.
The Hawkeyes are favored by 5 points in this Big Ten Conference matchup and the West Division title is also at stake. Minnesota and Iowa are 2 of 4 programs sitting with a 4 – 2 conference record as every heads-up game feels like double jeopardy.
Purdue and Wisconsin are also in the chase for the right to appear in the Big Ten title game representing the West Division. Minnesota has already earned a win over Purdue and they will get a crack at Wisconsin on the final day of the regular season. That essentially means that the Gophers can win out and simply be the program in the Big Ten title game, and it’s as simple as that!
Minnesota will have to stop at Indiana before they deal with the Badgers and the Gophers are indeed underdogs this weekend in Ames. How far can this boat be rowed?
The Hawkeyes have already lost to both Purdue and Wisconsin so a loss to Minnesota will be the final straw in their chances of being seen in the Big Ten title game. The chances were already slim enough but now it is simply the goal to win the last 3 games and get some help along the way too
Minnesota Golden Gophers
Minnesota has all the cards on the table. Win out and it’s on to the Big Ten title game. Coach Fleck isn’t about rowing the boat so much anymore because the fad was fun for a minute but the fun time is over now.
Even though it was a down 3 – 4 2020 season with a lot of turbulence, Coach Fleck still couldn’t find a way to beat Iowa. It is year 5 in Minnesota and Fleck is O’fer against the Hawkeyes. The losses to Iowa have become a thing now that it has stretched to a series-high 6 straight wins for Iowa.
Luckily, things will not be as challenging this weekend due to some big absences for Iowa this weekend. I’ll get into that next but seeing this line at -5 is a joke to me.
Minnesota is going to walk into Ames underdogs and they are going to walk out of Ames with a win this weekend. You can keep your damn points because we won’t be needing any of those!
Iowa Hawkeyes
Well, getting the streak to 7 straight wins over Minnesota is not going to come easily because the line setters slapped them as favorites. In fact, I see this as a trap game because there are 3 monster absences for this team on Saturday.
First of all, Spencer Petras? Done, bystander, pedestrian, and watching the game like all of us. There goes your starting QB.
Secondly, Ivory Kelley-Martin? Likely out again taking the team’s second-leading rusher off the table.
And finally, Riley Moss? Yeah, he gone! That knee is not good news and he might be out for the rest of the regular season.
And there go your big three reason’s why Iowa being favored makes zero sense here.
Tyler Goodson is going to be asked to do everything and the Minnesota defense is going to be all over him like white on rice! Alex Padilla is going to have to do more than hand the ball off to Goodson and the Gophers’ opportunistic defense will be pouncing on him all day.
