Here’s why I’m backing an UNDER bet below in my Blue Raiders Panthers free pick & gambling prediction for this matchup.
Blue Raiders vs. Panthers Gameday
The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders visit the Florida International Panthers on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium in Miami. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM ET on CBS Sports Network. Both teams enter at 3-3 overall and 1-1 in Conference USA.
Derek Mason’s Blue Raiders are undefeated at home but winless in three road games. They arrive after an important conference victory over Delaware.
Now comes the harder assignment.
Middle Tennessee hasn’t won away from home, and FIU hasn’t lost in Miami. Something has to give.
Willie Simmons has the Panthers playing tough defensive football. FIU has won all three home games but is trying to recover from a narrow loss at Jacksonville State. Another conference victory would strengthen its position in the standings.
Both programs have shown improvement without establishing much consistency. This matchup offers a chance to get above .500.
Neither side can afford to waste it.
It’s Week 8, Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs. Florida International Panthers, hopefully we get a great matchup.

Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs. Florida International Panthers Odds & Previous Games
FIU opened as the -408 moneyline favorite, with Middle Tennessee at +319. The Panthers are laying 10 points at home. The total opened at 45.5.
Middle Tennessee defeated Delaware 33-30 and Nevada 27-20. Its losses included a 55-0 defeat against Kansas and setbacks to Jacksonville State and Marshall.
That Kansas result remains the ugliest performance on its schedule.
FIU lost 27-24 to Jacksonville State after falling 16-10 against Florida Atlantic. The Panthers previously defeated New Mexico State 22-3, LIU 20-3 and Buffalo 33-20. Their results have featured considerably more defensive work than offensive fireworks.
FIU has won the last two meetings, including a 56-30 victory in 2025. Middle Tennessee leads the all-time series 14-7.
The Blue Raiders won five of the last seven meetings overall.

Panthers Stats
FIU has allowed 88 points through six games, an average of 14.7 per contest. The Panthers rank among the nation’s top 10 in scoring and total defense. Opponents have struggled to sustain drives against their aggressive front.
The defense has generated 14 sacks and eight takeaways. Its red-zone work has been particularly impressive, allowing touchdowns on only 31.3 percent of opponents’ trips inside the 20.
That is a difficult defense to finish drives against.
FIU’s defense is carrying the load, and its offense still owes that unit a few favors.
The Panthers average 19.7 points despite producing 382.7 yards per game. They have scored touchdowns on only seven of 22 red-zone visits. That disconnect between yardage and points has been costly.
Devonte Lyons and Anthony Carrie provide rushing options, while Maguire Anderson leads the receiving attack. FIU has enough playmakers to move the chains.
Turning those possessions into touchdowns remains another story.
Blue Raiders Stats
Middle Tennessee averages 22.8 points and 321.5 total yards per game. The Blue Raiders have struggled to generate consistent offense against stronger opponents. Their passing attack remains the most dangerous part of the unit.
Antonio Martin Jr. has rushed for 433 yards, while Cam’ron Lacy has 35 catches for 369 yards and four touchdowns. Both are central to Mason’s offense.
Getting them involved early will matter.
Defensively, Middle Tennessee allows 28.3 points per contest. Opponents have found considerable success running the football, averaging nearly 200 rushing yards per game. That weakness has made controlling possession difficult.
The Blue Raiders have recorded eight takeaways, split between four interceptions and four fumble recoveries. Their pass rush also showed improvement against Delaware.
Consistency remains the bigger challenge.
Blue Raiders vs. Panthers QB Matchup
FIU quarterback JJ Kohl has thrown for 1,458 yards and seven touchdowns through six games. His seven interceptions have offset some of that production. The Panthers need better ball security from their primary passer.
Kohl has completed 116 of 199 attempts and remains FIU’s established starter. His arm allows the Panthers to attack defenses vertically.
Forcing throws into coverage is the problem.
Middle Tennessee’s Roman Gagliano has completed 110 of 188 passes for 1,204 yards. He has thrown 11 touchdowns against only two interceptions. His decision-making has been one of the Blue Raiders’ offensive bright spots.
Gagliano threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns against Delaware. That performance demonstrated his ability to deliver in a competitive conference game.
He enters Tuesday as Middle Tennessee’s established starter.
CP Is More Than Just Sports Picks!
“ Anybody can post a prediction. CappersPicks backs up its sports picks with opinionated matchup analysis, experienced handicappers & documented betting performance. Pad that bankroll one day at a time! ”
FIU’s pass rush will try to disrupt Gagliano before his receivers can work downfield. Middle Tennessee must protect the pocket and avoid predictable passing situations. The Panthers have enough defensive talent to punish poor protection.
Kohl faces a defense that has shown vulnerability but can still create turnovers. FIU needs him to recognize pressure and avoid unnecessary risks.
Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders vs. Florida International Panthers bottom line: FIU’s defense gives it the stronger foundation, while Middle Tennessee needs efficient passing and better road execution to challenge the Panthers.
MTSU Blue Raiders vs. FIU Panthers Football Betting Trends
- MTSU is 7-3 against the spread as an underdog in their last 10 games.
- Additionally, the Blue Raiders have gone 3-1 against the spread after a win in their last 4 games.
- Middle Tennessee has a 4-2 record for the over in away games over the last 6 games.
- FIU is 5-0 straight up as a favorite in their last 5 games.
- Plus, the Panthers are 10-3 against the spread in home games over the last 13 games.
- Florida International has a 12-6 record for the over after a loss in their last 18 games.
Blue Raiders Panthers Free Pick: Under 45.5
Here is my Blue Raiders Panthers free pick: I’m taking the Under 45.5. FIU is favored by double digits, but its offense hasn’t earned that kind of scoring confidence. Moving the football is one thing; cashing in is another.
MTSU has enough passing ability to threaten, so this isn’t a bet on a complete shutdown. I expect FIU to make the Blue Raiders work for every scoring opportunity.
That puts a premium on finishing drives.
I’ll take an ugly field-goal battle over betting on these offenses to suddenly become touchdown machines.
The biggest threat is a turnover giving either team cheap points. FIU’s quarterback has taken risks, and a short field can wreck an Under faster than a bad defense.
That’s the risk I’m accepting at this number.
I see FIU controlling enough possessions to keep MTSU chasing without needing a huge offensive night. A Panthers victory in the low 20s leaves room for the Blue Raiders to compete and still keeps this ticket alive.
Give me Under 45.5
I’m betting against touchdowns, not against either team moving the chains.
